USC Fall 08 transfers

"Also, once a student has reached 32 units, we will only use the college transcript for admission purposes. "

This is an excerpt from the e-mail I got from a USC counselor.
She explained 32 units or one year equivalent at a college
waives SAT and HS stats. Hope this clears everything up.

Also, I was also worried that I am not fulfilling many of the
different categories, in which she explained that the main
pre-reqs the admissions looks at are the ones required by
the specific majors. For my case, Marshall requires Eng
Micro/Macro and Calculus, which I've completed and am
in the process of completing. Basically, the pre-req's specified
by major has to be completed before the semester to which
you apply to. and the core requirements are strongly suggested

I just got a part2 huge package by mail.... It seems like i did part.1 thats why..

Thanks wreckedtune & coffeeandtobacco for your responses. It's one less thing I have to worry about. I have well over 30 units, around 64 transferrable when I apply after the spring term. Why does Boston University & NYU Stern require SAT scores? Because if I don't get accepted to USC then those schools are my alternatives, I guess I'll look elsewhere.

Torrancecali-When did you apply? Because I applied a week ago and I haven't received a package in the mail yet.

usc24- it's been around 3weeks-1month or so....

BU does not require SAT's once you have 32 units. It does not specify that
on the site but I spoke with a counselor and still have an email from her
if you would like me to c&p it on this post. The same with NYU, if you have
30-32 units then SATs are not necessary.

coffeeandtobacco-That would be great if you could c&p it, I actually emailed BU regarding if the SAT's are required and I still haven't received a response, but thank you for letting me know.

"SAT and ACT’s are not required for transfer applicants, but an applicant may be required to take the TOEFL exam if “English” isn’t the first language spoken at home and that is a question on the application."

Transfer office

Boston University

Hope this helps.

Coffeeandtabaco,

<a href="http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/instructions_tr.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/instructions_tr.html</a></p>

"Standardized Testing
Transfer applicants are required to submit results of the SAT or the ACT. (See the Requirements and Standards chart for further testing details.) Please have your official score report sent directly to Boston University. For the SAT, the College Board number for Boston University is 3087. The ACT code number for Boston University is 1794.

Your application will not be considered complete until we have received official score reports directly from the College Board or ACT, even if your scores are recorded on your high school transcript."

It seems very confusing to be told one thing and have the website say something different. I wonder what other universities do that. There needs to be a list of colleges that dont want standardized test scores for transfers.

SoCalBum

I talked to this transfer advisor over the phone and via
e-mail and the SAT and ACT requirement stands for transfers
below the 30-32 unit mark. If you have 30-32 units, then
SAT/ACT scores are not required. Some majors at BU accepts
spring transfers and I'm assuming that there are freshmen transfers
that do not have 30-32 units, therefore the SAT/ACT requirements
stand for them. However, from the information I've gathered,
most schools waive SAT/ACT scores if an applicant has accumulated
1 year's equivalent of college units. This applies not only to BU
but USC and NYU.

no SAT scores required for junior transfers yey!

What if it's your first year in a CC and you're planning to accumulate up to 35 units by the end of Spring term, June '08 for me, but when you apply to lets say BU, NYU, USC etc. during the early/late part of winter you only have around 18-24 units? The thing is I had the choice to go to some really good universities, but I'd much prefer to go to any one of these schools:

Occidental College
Claremont McKenna College
Pomona College
NYU
Wash U in St. Louis
Boston University
Case Western Reserve University
Pepperdine University
or USC.

Does that mean that I'd have to send my SAT scores even thought I'll have 35 units done a few months after I submit the applications?

Awesome! no SAT scores required, I have multiple alternatives now. Anyone know any other schools in the east coast that has a really good business program?

emory, pretty good business school and i heard you dont even need to send in high school transcripts if you've completed over 30 units.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever made the switch from UCLA to USC?

or from USC to UCLA?

how do i recieve the $10 fee waiver?

I'm gonna be a freshmen at UCSC this fall and would like to transfer to USC for my sophomore year. How plausible is this? and what should i start doing now to start getting ready to transfer as in what type of courses to take? As of now im enrolled in an English class, an introduction to macroeconomics class, and an ancient roman history class.
thanks

Hi guys! First time poster. Here goes...

GPA: 3.63 (will hopefully be raised this semester)
Units: 62 transferable, but will be ~94 after spring
GE: need Anthropology 2 (GE category II) and foreign language
Pre-Req: need at least 1 semester of foreign language
EC: Alpha Gamma Sigma
High School: 3.5 GPA, AP Calc AB (scored 4)
High School ECs: Dance/Cheer 3yrs, student govt 1yr, yearbook 2yrs, FBLA 1yr
Work: part-time at a media production company
Legacy: None. 1st generation college-goer
Applying to: Annenberg - Communications
2nd major: ??
Currently: 16 units @ Pasadena City College, all 16 are scholars options
Also Applying to: UCLA, UCSD, maybe CSU Fullerton (all as Comm major)

Lots of weird variables here. I have an extremely high number of units because I spent my first 5 semesters at PCC working towards the nursing program, until I decided it wasn't for me. Then I did a semester of artsy-type classes (which I loved, but don't see as a career option, because I'm kind of terrible). As it stands, I already have 77 units, and this is my 3rd year at PCC, eek.

I got a D in Physiology, that I re-took for a B.
I got an NC in a 1 unit lab from art class.
I have 3 W's: one from my very first semester because I didn't know what I was doing, second from a winter intersession course with the WORST professor ever (I'm re-taking the course with a much more reliable professor this semester), third from a class that I'll admit, I flaked.

I'm mostly nervous about my 3 W's, and lack of rigor (until this semester, I never took more than 9-12 units/semester), and ECs. I have a really intense academic year planned, so I'm hoping this will make up for the past.

I can't decide on a second choice major. I would put Sociology, but I got a C in Socio 1, ergh. Perhaps PoliSci? This is seriously the only thing holding me back from submitting my Part I Application, haha.

I know I have a lot of questions/concerns, but I'm going to Transfer Day tomorrow at USC... anyone else going? :)

einna - you've got a pretty good chance w/ your gpa and hs stats. just be sure to provide an excuse for your w's on the app.

btw, it seems like USC's CLAS is the easiest program to transfer to. do you guys think I should put Econ as my first choice major even if I havent completed ANY foreign language requirement, aside from a year of Spanish 1/2 in my freshman year in high school?

I think it's getting harder all around. I had a 3.7 from a tier-two, applied for CLAS, and got Spring admission. I was told by an admission staffer that the average accepted GPA was "around 3.8."

In any event, good luck to all! :)
