What are the pros/cons for going to USC for med school, with a bio major?

BUMP

dangerous area

Pro - Smaller classes, more personalized attention and support than you would get at most public universities, including the UCs.

Con - Expensive. If you go to USC without financial aid,and then get into medical school, you’re talking some serious debt.

??

Will the premed prereq classes be small at USC? I doubt it.
And since USC requires an unusual number of humanities as prereqs for its med school, I suspect that most/all of their lower division classes are quite large.

The classes may be smaller than the super huge classes at a UC, but I think that the lower division classes will still be quite large.

Jelly There will be a lot of premeds at USC. What are your stats? Are you well within the top 25% at the school? A premed should want to be at a school where his stats are high. Premed prereqs are often weeder classes. The number of A’s are often limited.

No premed should go where he is lucky to get in…unless it’s an elite lottery acceptance like the ivies and the student is top for the school.

I said “smaller”, not “small”.

I believe the largest classes at USC are around 200. A lot of the state flagships have classes two or three times that size.

I think the largest class at USC is around 300, but that would still be smaller than 400+. I’m not sure that once a class size if over 100, it makes much difference…unless the size is so huge that those in the back can barely see the prof. lol.

Yes, the UCs seem to have some mega classes. There are a number of schools, private and public, that have class sizes more similar to USC for those 1XX classes.
