UCLA VS USC

Hi I need some advice. I got into both UCLA and USC. I did not get any scholarship or Aid from USC. I will be majoring in biological science (pre-med ) major. I would like to go to medical school after graduation. I am having hard time deciding which school would be better for me.

They are both similar schools in terms of rankings and admittance of high quality students with similar stats. Are you a CA residence? If you are, UCLA is about $35K (tuition and room & board, books, etc.) per year while USC is about $72 to 75K per year. UCLA for out of state students is around $64K per year, which is still a cheaper than USC, but it may take you longer to graduate from UCLA due to limited classes compared to USC. USC has smaller class size vs. large class size for UCLA.

Personally, unless you are in Engineering, Computer Science, or Biological Sciences for pre-med or heath profession, I personally think UCLA is more intense in the competition to get top grades in the other fields outside the above.

There are plenty of discussions on the 2 schools in various treads in this forum and you can also google the topic.

If you are in state, UCLA is the better choice since it is far cheaper.

@UCBUSCalum . . . USC doesn’t have materially smaller class sizes, and UCLA’s administration has pointedly worked on this as well as availability of classes and students getting them timely and subsequently graduating within four years.

I hope this is not becoming like a spiel . . . however, I would recommend to you @Sand12 that you have a fallback minor or even a dual major in case you find that med school is becoming tenuous as you proceed through your life and physical sciences courses. UCLA, because it’s on the quarter system, should give you a greater chance to explore other unrelated fields of study or attach another major.
