Hey, I'm a USC Presidential Scholar who submitted the housing app on April 16. Is there a good change I will get Birnkrant, my first choice? What other housing option are good? I'm looking for a good mix of studying and the social life. And I'm definitely looking for the cheapest options. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I’m not sure a mid-April application date will get you Birnkrant. The latest that I’ve heard from those who got BK is around mid-March. I do know a couple people who got New/North with that date though. As you may already know, New/North is known as the “party” dorm with mainly (but not all) Greek residents. It definitely fulfills the social aspect you’re looking for, though it isn’t always quiet. But not to fear, Leavey Library is literally around the corner and people study there day and night.

Freshman dorms are all around the same price, without any big differences. You’d have to look at the housing website if you want the exact prices.

Trojan Hall and Marks Hall are the quieter dorms, though I’ve known people who have made good friends there and therefore have had good experiences. Others didn’t like it so much. Pardee and Marks Tower are both pretty good as well, with a good mix. You may get one of those with your app date.

I think it’s a bit late for Parkside A&H and IRC, but those are the ones with suites. Most of the people I’ve known have liked it a lot if they get along well with their suitemates. Both buildings are the newest and very nice and clean. They’re a bit dead on the weekends though, and I’ve heard complaints about how it’s hard to form relationships with people outside of your suite.

From my experience, where you live and how much you like it has a lot to do with what you make of it. Of course some circumstances can’t be helped, but for the most part I feel that all USC freshman dorms can provide good experiences. Good luck!
