I am currently a first year at UCI, and am planning to transfer to USC. I read in the transfer guide that I must “complete WRIT340, a minimum of two Core Literacy GE courses, and any remaining General Education courses not taken before entering USC.” Is this WRIT340 class a writing class I can only complete at USC? Also, do I need to hold off on completing every GE Course transferable from UCI, because a minimum of two Core Literacy GE courses need to be taken at USC? I don’t know if I am interpreting this correctly. Please send help :<.
Yup, WRIT 340 is the upper division writing course and you must complete it at USC. You just have to knock out a lower division writing requirement while at UCI. You can complete all the GE categories at while at UCI, but you do need to take an additional two GE’s at USC. This technically makes it impossible to complete all of your GE requirements while at UCI, but it’s always been this way. At least nowadays, you can pick from any of the GE categories. Back in my day, the two USC GE’s had to be from “Science and Its Significance” and “Social Issues”. With the new GE requirements, you can take GEs in areas where you’d excel Like maybe you’d prefer two more science classes instead of say a philosophy GE. I think you understood what the transfer guide said quite well
Thanks, another question though, if there is a certain class at UCI that is listed under 2 different category GE’s for USC, does that class only fulfill one of the two categories? Or can it fulfill both?
Generally speaking, transfer GE credit will fulfill only one category. There are some upper division classes that will fulfill two, but these are upper divisions taught at USC.
