does it matter which lender we choose for our loans?
or are they all pretty much the same?

I believe the loan terms for student Staffords are all the same. My daughter chose the USC Credit Union, because she opened an account there and it will be very convenient for her to do business with in the coming years. I’m pretty sure she did it online. You might want to check it out… Good luck.

I would like to pay the Family Contribution in as many loans as I can. I understand I can take out only a maximum amount with the Stafford loan but we are still 15,000 short which we would like to pay in as many loans as we can take out. Where might I find recommended loans and if I am planning on getting used books from other students and getting insurance waivers, should I speak to a financial aid officer to find my exact payment? Thank you very much for all your help!

I’m fairly certain, the Stafford loan is the maximum a student can borrow – $5500 as a freshman with the limit slightly increasing each year.

Parents have many options including Parent Plus loans. USC is just beginning to send out payment and loan option correspondence to parents. There are also many private loans available to parents. I would suggest looking at USC’s financial aid website and calling the Financial Aid office. There is a wealth of information there.

Big question, I already maxed out on my Stafford loans, but I’m still $7000 short. I understand that I can borrow from a private lender. But what if both my parents and I were denied by the banks and USC Credit Union. How can I find the money to pay???

Im not 100% sure about this, but I remember from somewhere that if both parents dont qualify for the private loans, more stafford loans will become available. gl

xcherrykatiex, Have your parents applied for a federal Plus loan? If they are denied for the Federal PLUS loan, you become eligible for an extra $5,000 in Stafford unsubs [USC Financial Aid - Loans - Federal Parent PLUS Loan for Undergraduate Students](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/loans/undergradplus.html) [USC Financial Aid - Loans - Federal Stafford Loan](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/loans/stafford.html)
