USC (Marshall) vs. Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)

I'm trying to decide between USC and Carnegie Mellon. I'm kind of worried that if i go to USC and try to go back east to New York to find a job with a bank or some sort of venture capital firm i would have a huge disadvantage than if i went to Carnegie Mellon. I'm looking to major in Finance and i also believe that Carnegie has the quantitative reputation that would help me a lot.

The one thing i am also concerned of is the situation at Carnegie with girls :( . Is it really THAT bad?

As I and a lot of other posters have pointed out, undergraduate business schools (especially) have their strongest career contacts/networks locally and regionally. This doesn’t mean you can’t get a job in NYC if you go to school in California, it just means that there’ll be fewer (if any) on campus recruiters for NYC jobs at USC. In short, you’re going to have to do more of the legwork on your own.

As far as the girl situation, when son2 and I toured CMU he quickly picked up on the 56% Male/44% Female stat. Given that this gives the girls more choices, you need to decided how you’ll stack-up against your male competition.

USC will give you enough connections to go N.Y. if thats where you want to go.
