USC Merit Scholarships

So the deadline for those are December 1. Does that mean SAT taken in December will not count in the evaluation for merit scholarships?

i was also going to ask the same question, does anyone know if the dec. scores will make it in time for merit scholarship evaluations?

We had a discussion about this last year-
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/424997-scholarship-deadline.html?highlight=scholarship+december+sat%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/424997-scholarship-deadline.html?highlight=scholarship+december+sat</a></p>

But if you want to be sure, call again.

They start evaluating files early for the merit scholarships and they notify kids in January that they are accepted and then send an invitation to interview for merit awards shortly thereafter. Having said that, I'm sure if you send your December SAT scores, they will make it in to your file asap and if they are still reviewing the merit applications, you will get the benefit of your (presumably) higher scores. In any case, some merit awards are given out later in the process as well. I wouldn't worry about it: your scores will be out when they are out, they will be added to your file and they will be looked at.

Thanks, how about for ACT scores? I am taking both ACT and SAT in December, will USC get both in time? ACT test date is at 12/13 (past the 12/10 score-reporting deadline). And doesn't it take couple weeks for ACT/SAT scores to come out? When my scores do come out, it will be near end of December... so do I do expedited score reporting or something?

If you have the option to pay extra to get your scores in sooner, I would expedite the scores.

I agree with mdcissp to rush them just in case, if you can pay the extra charge. I'd also send an email to admissions (with your ID # clearly stated), as soon as you have the score, to let them know that your score will be confirmed by Collegeboard.

Rushing might not be helpful. I've read on CC that it can actually slow down the process of score reporting in the worst case, and does little to speed it up at best. I have no personal experience with this, but it's been reported by some. USC likely gets the scores electronically, which means they can get them quickly, so it might be sufficient to simply indicate that you've taken the test and hope to have your scores considered. You could do that in an email to your regional admissions officer.

Yeah, my college counselor specifically said that rushing scores doesn't make anything go faster. I say just call and ask and USC can give you the answer.
