Hey guys! I was admitted to Marshall recently, and for a few reasons ended up requesting more off campus housing than on campus. For USC alumni/students, what are the pros and cons? obviously off campus is more spacey and bathrooms are private. on campus is social and closer. But I wanted some advice from experience that wasnt just the generic stuff. Thank you!!
Off campus generally includes parking, and some non USC owned buildings have pools. I lived in Pacific, Hillview, Annenberg and Founders and liked the laundry facilities, rec rooms and privacy. I enjoyed Pacific the best because it’s small and the back yard is next to another apartment with a pool that we used. (My unit was on the ground floor facing it!) It’s very easy meeting new friends as well. The only drawback was I don’t cook so eating was always a chore. But being able to escape the hustle and bustle of campus was worth it. Make sure you get a bike for easy transportation to campus.
thank you! @SeattleTW
was it easy to get around outside if campus without private transportation? @SeattleTW
Yes and no. I had a car and drove OOS students around. Others did too. Hopefully one of your roomies will do the same. Today there are many other options, such as ride shares and zip car. You’re better off in many respects without a car, insurance being one of them. But you do need a bike or scooter to get to campus easily.
The Expo light rail line can zip you from campus to downtown (and points beyond), to exciting restaurants and LA Live fun, in no time. My sons use it all the time. When my husband and I visit, even though we have a car, we find it much easier to stay at a nice hotel downtown and “expo” in for visits, football games, etc.
