USC Olympian Selected for Team USA Flagbearer

Bryshom Nellom, USC track star, has been selected to be the flagbearer for the United States Team USA at the closing ceremony for the 2012 London summer Olympics.

Nellom is also a member of the SC football team. This is Bryshom's first time to participate in the Olympics.

For those who don’t know, he was shot in both legs 4 years ago and didn’t know if he would walk again. And now he comes away with a silver medal. Also, 2012 USC Olympians broke the University’s record of 24 medals earned in 1984. Trojans came away with 25 medals this year Fight on!

Correction on name…It should be Bryshon Nellum.

USC took the most medals from the Pac-12. I wouldn’t be surprised if they took the most medals of any American university.

Simba, SC Trojans ended up with 25 Olympic medals. That is more than some countries.

Yep, tied with Stanford at 25 for the most medals of any US university. The article I posted probably didn’t have the last day of competition.

Oops, USC and Stanford tied for # of gold medals. USC won more total medals.

USC and Stanford rock; the others, not so much…

Simba, I saw an update that puts USC ahead by 1 in the gold medal count, because one of the women from Stanford on the soccer team was an alternate and did not get a medal.

Simba, do you know USC has the most of any University for 2012? I haven’t seen any press reports that say that. I know USC has more medals, total, than any other school in modern history of the Olympics. I also know USC has more Olympians, both for 2012 and for the total history, than any other school. Haven’t heard about the school comparisons for 2012’, but I’ll bet Michigan and Florida had good hauls in swiming and track.

I found this

5 of the top 8 are Pac-12. Pretty good.

Sorry but is this factoid actually announced by NBC?

USC, USC, USC, I mean USA, USA, USA!

Thanks, Simba, that is great!

Simba, that link is helpful but the editor needs to update it. USC has 25 medals, not 24. And how does this guy overlook Michael Phelps for U of Michigan???

Good question about Phelps, LegacyMom. I looked at Phelp’s web page on Wikipedia, and it said that while he trained at Michigan, he never pursued a degree.

I also noticed that the medals totals changed since last night.
