Just looking for some feedback. My D was accepted into the BFA Acting at USC and the musical theatre BFA program At Hartt. Her first love is musical theatre which is Hartts strong point, a real mt conservatory; but as an actor I think the USC internship and professional network is stronger. Any thoughts from forum members ?

If you click over to the Theatre/Drama Majors forum, there is a thread all about USC Drama (USC School of Dramatic Arts invitation, I think is what it is called). There is a lot of info in there.

Two different schools. Depends on your daughter’s goals. If she wants to be musical theatre stage actor - Hartt. If she wants film, TV as option - USC. She can still get singing and dance training while attending USC. I know actors who have done this outside school curriculum.

Tough choice. How is the money difference?

Another idea to consider is the location and what that may mean to casting in summer theater and post graduation theater. Location on the west coast will more easily lead into casting in west coast productions, but while some national tours, summer and professional theaters travel to audition on the west coast, I believe that so many more options are available in the east for summer stock casting and tour casting . . . something to consider.

D is an acting major at Hartt; she has had an amazing year there. The family-feeling is very strong; the theater dept is small and close knit and very supportive. There are (after freshman year) tons of productions, all professionally directed. It is extremely intense and rigorous-- but that’s what these kids want.

I’d echo what the others say about West Coast vs East-- for film and tv you’d be better off at USC, but the casting opportunities for stage acting are better in the East. I expect USC’s academics are better, if that’s important to her. Can she visit both? Often enough it seems like the only way to comfortably make a decision.
