I’m having a very difficult time choosing between the two schools. Money is obviously a big deciding factor and as a CA resident, Davis will be around 30k whereas USC will be around 70k a year. Do you think the connections and education that I would get from USC is worth taking out those big loans for? Or will I get equally as good of an education at Davis?
I’m really in need of some help, so I would love to hear all of your opinions!
I would post this in the UC Davis thread. You might also want to PM @sopranokitty whom is a very knowledgeable about CS at UCD.
I would go for the lower cost school UCD which is within a few hours of San Jose/Silicon valley and many connections.
@gumbymom: i think you have the wrong person. I was an Animal Science major, not a CS major. @PhantomVirgo, i believe, is the one who is knowledgeable about CS.
There isn’t much to differentiate undergraduate CS programs. You’d be getting the same education at either school, so there’s no reason to pay $40K/year more to go to USC. I also don’t find school connections to be that useful in getting a job in a field like CS. After one or two jobs, where you went to school becomes unimportant.
The only reason I might advise one to go to USC in this situation is if they got into the USC CS/Games program, and were rich enough so that $40K/year wasn’t a big deal to them.
