USC Parents Thread

The problem with alamemom is she never helps anyone here. The problem with lamedaughter is she never accomplishes anything.:)

Congrats to Lamefamily!!!

Congratulations to your wonderful and highly accomplished daughter, and to you alamemom!
Hope to see you both on Friday!
I too am so very proud of my daughter…soon off to the award ceremony today, to honour my DD as Renaissance Scholar prize recipient!! We are so thrilled!
USC has been such a fantastic experience, I know that I will choke up at Commencement. Much looking forward to Friday.
Huge congratulations to all graduates!!

I can’t believe that tomorrow our youngest graduates of college. I am thrilled…and just a little bit sad. Our family will always be Trojans…no matter where we go.

To all of the graduates: (and their families) Congratulations! As a parent I am so proud of all of you. And tomorrow we Ellebuds will scream our applause as each school is announced and the kids walk in. It is a sight to behold and never forgotten.

(Did I ever mention that last summer when we were in line at the Louvre my husband was wearing an SC hat. Across the Louvre we heard: FIGHT ON!!!)

So…to all: Love, happiness, health and success. And FIGHT ON!!

congrats to all the graduating parents! I hope we get there, but I don’t want it to go so quickly.

Congratulations to all…it’s frightening how quickly it goes. I was thinking of saying goodbye to my daughter on campus this August, I hope I can keep it together.
I remember saying goodbye to her each morning at preschool like it was yesterday.

To all the parents of Graduates: Congratulations! And thank you, thank you, thank you for passing on all of your wisdom to those of us that came after you. I know I speak for many of us when I say the information you shared was and is invaluable. I hope all your wonderful and talented children continue to grow, thrive and make you as proud of them in the future as you will be tomorrow. Fight on Trojan parents, fight on!

I’m sending virtual hugs to all the 2012 parents with thanks for your friendship and guidance along the way. Congrats to all our graduates with special shout outs to alamemom’s wonderful D and also to sequoia’s wonderful D (both phi beta kappa, btw!).

For all current USC parents (including myself, heh–with S2 Class of 2015), I’m glad we get to continue enjoying the ride. And to incoming parents, my best wish for you is that you’ll also get a terrific case of Trojan fever when you see the amazing changes in your S or D. The happiness is contagious.

S1 graduates tomorrow, also with high honors, and with great USC friends, with a wonderful USC gf, with the career he always has dreamed of. We are grateful!!

And if Georgia Girl is reading this thread–I just want to say Happy Birthday tomorrow! So cool that your birthday is USC’s graduation day.

Happiest of Happy Birthday GeorgiaGirl!

And thank you for everything. You are wonderful.

Home from commencement. Thanks for all the good wishes  and congratulations to all the 2012 PARENTS!

I hope Sequoia heard our cheering as her daughter’s name was announced as a Renaissance Scholar prize recipient - what an amazing, talented, brilliant and beautiful young woman she is, and what a great future she has before her.

I wish I could have gone to each of the satellite ceremonies to cheer for all the amazing kids, but there was SO much going on. I was a FULL day :)

Congrats to all the 2012 parents and students!

Congrats to all the grads and their parents!

I’m just back from commencement, and send out my heartfelt thanks to all of you who helped me and my son as he faced that epic decision about USC back in '08. I can’t imagine anyone being happier than he is about the 4 years he spent at USC. It’s been essentially perfect: great classes and profs, exceptional opportunities for hands-on work in film, and really terrific classmates. So perfect, in fact, that we can’t get him to come home… but that’s a story of its own :)

He happens to have spent a couple years sharing a house with some kids whose parents I met on this forum. He finally will admit that having the moms know each other could have played a tiny role in their friendship. Hurray for the best sub-forum on college confidential!

So my only remaining question is this: are parents of alums allowed/expected to do the victory sign-hand motion-thingee when the fight song is played? I felt a little conflicted at the graduation ceremony.

Do the victory sign…you’ve earned it.

Bumped for new parents…

Thank you for the kind comments…

We are also east coast parents with a freshman. A friend told us that if you go to bed, bath and beyond and pick out stuff they will send it to the local store for pick up. Hopefully it is close to usc.

However, the nearest one is realistically only reachable by car, otherwise you can just have it shipped to your son’s dorm.

Some students find things at IKEA.

Madbean (or any other parent who has encountered this situation), I seem to recall you having some knowledge of UCLA, so wondering if you might know possibility of transferring credits…
My incoming USC freshman student got offered a great last minute internship, but needed college credit in order to take advantage of the opportunity. Too late to sign up for USC summer session. USC suggested community college, but after numerous phone calls, that did not work out either due to scheduling. Community colleges suggested UCLA extension, which thankfully worked out and student is enrolled. Considered a full 4 unit quarter class. In your experience, as UCLA is quarter system and USC is semester, do you believe this class will transfer? Of course, student will confirm with USC at orientation, but just wondering.

Also, as a parent who has been a bit in a fog the last month with graduation, etc…
At this point, for incoming/enrolled USC students, all financial info., health insurance forms, etc… are now on Oasis (and USC connect is a thing of the past)…correct? So student will need to download insurance forms, etc.?
As parents will be paying tuition, etc… what does student need to do to allow parents to receive these bills directly?

I’m sure a lot of this information will be covered at orientation, but as we won’t be attending until later in the summer, I thought I would ask the experts! Thanks in advance for your help!

You can check the articulation agreement: Error, otherwise I would file a petition explaining your situation. http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/articulation/arthis.html

If you are talking about the insurance waiver the site is here: [University of Southern California - University Park Health Center](http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/Health_Center/insurance/index.shtml) but it should be mentioned during orientation.

ConnectSC is moving to a new system soon.

Everything payment related is under USCe.pay & USC Payment Plan, your son/daughter can grant you access to a guest account, where you can see the bill anytime and setup payment there without logging into his/her my.usc account. Will also be covered more in depth at orientation.

Thank you so much for the link to the articulation agreement! Looks like my student will be filing a petition…actually not a bad idea for an incoming freshman to learn how that process works, whether or not they decide to let the units transfer. Also, thanks for link to health insurance waiver…one more thing I can get out of the way.

Again, a big round of applause for all the alumni and parents who take the time to answer questions about USC. Really a great source for us neophytes!
