USC SCA Class of 2023 Discussion

Not directly USC SCA related but since many of you are applying to other film programs…

DS was offered admission to UT Austin for RTF last night! (2nd choice after SCA)

Hoping you all hear good news soon.

@romns116 Congrats!

My daughter had considered her UT/RTF admission as a strong back-up to SCA too… well, until the $0 in FA as OOS. So good luck with that part of it as well…

@WWWard

Thank you! It seems like my son is traveling a similar path to both your Ds. I hope he follows them to USC, and on to SCA with your younger D! Thanks for going out of your way to help so many people.

Hopefully, UT is an affordable in state option.

@romns116 You’re welcome.

And being In-State should make all the difference in the world for your son regarding UT.

Good Luck

When does the SCA program normally announce decision results? April?

I think they come out just a bit before at the end of March. I know that they release all their decisions at the same time.

Last cycle, they were mailed out on Thursday, March 22nd, as I recall. All acceptances are mailed out together via USPS Priority Mail… with a portal update reflecting both admissions and rejections a couple days later. So SCA will hear with everyone else. Some however may know that they are already “in” if they continue with the merit scholarship program via a letter and portal update in late January. No one is actually rejected in January. So the first possible rejections and all admissions are finalized in March.

!

good luck guys <3 popping back on here after my first semester at SCA as a film production major and just saying if its meant to be it’ll be!!! if you want to message me about apps and stuff and to just get rid of anxieties go ahead!!! I love sca sooo soo much and I’m so glad I chose to go there… accepted to Emerson, Syracuse, waitlisted at NYU

Welcome back @prepro986 !
I remember following your journey last year. Glad to hear you’re doing well at SCA. Hoping DS, and many others here, join you on campus!

@preppro986 is there anyway for me to contact you besides here?! Won’t let me PM you! Also very nervous about SCA!

@paceorama CC will let you PM after you have enough posts. I am not sure of the #, but it is only a few.

Daughter also applied for Animation. Fingers crossed!

Are there any SCA specific merit scholarships that may give a January notification?

Edit: found them from the SCA site.
https://cinema.usc.edu/scholarships/

Would qualified applicants being considered for these scholarships receive notification in Jan?

nope!! they invite everyone to apply for scholarships regardless if u get in or not!

@prepro986

Sorry, I wasn’t asking about scholarship invitations. I was asking if finalists (or awardees) of any SCA specific merit scholarships are notified in January.

Just trying to determine feasibility of an early notification prior to official acceptance (which may have been mentioned here or in another thread)

Think I found my answer from other discussions. It appears that only the big scholarships (Trustee, Presidential, and Dean’s) are announced in late Jan.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

@romns116 You are correct. Only those continuing via the big merit scholarship process (and thus already admitted) are notified in January. The SCA specific scholarships are given out later… likely in late March or early April.

Hey what’s up guys! No ones really posting here but let’s get it going! Im a freshmen applicant/senior in High School . Very nervous but would love to talk to others applying.

I’m certain things will ramp up here in the next few weeks :slight_smile:

DS applied to other film schools (UT [accepted], Wes, NW, BU) but the other apps were schools with great academics, generous aid, and (maybe) above average film/tv.

While we wait, I’d love to hear what everyone’s contingency schools are to SCA’s 3.5% chances?
