USC SCA Class of 2023 Discussion

(Non SCA post…)

Before the break, DS got into UMich LSA (Film, Television, and Media Major) w/very generous OOS FA estimate (NPC).

Above average, un-ranked film program, but UMich overall has a wonderful academic reputation.

Congrats, @romns116 Great school.

I signed up to thank @WWWard and @CADREAMIN too! It is a particularly excruciating time for my son as his college counselor strongly encouraged him to apply ED or ED2 to other schools. He has dreamed of going to USC since he was a toddler so he chose not to do that… I really can’t even imagine how devastated he will be not to get admitted, especially given that he passed up the chance to ED at other schools. Man, this is tough stuff… But thank you!

sorry wrong thread!

@dorothyday you’re welcome

Anyone applying to SCA receive a white box (merit scholarship invite)?

Asking here because I didn’t see any SCA majors on the other discussions.

@romns116 I got in for film production!

@gabbbayyy can i ask what were your stats/ec/etc?

@cokegirl530 I posted my stats in the results thread! in regard to film though, I have been taking film classes throughout high school as well as making short films and submitting them to festivals.

congrats, @gabbbayyy quite an achievement.

@WWWard thank you!

@gabbbayyy

Big congratulations to you! As stated in the other thread, your portfolio must’ve communicated your voice and vision well. Great job!

DS applied to PROD & CAMS and feels pretty good about his supplemental for both majors.

Question: his resume listed 5-6 festival submissions and/or awards. He’s received a couple more since submitting. Worth sending an update? He doesn’t want to come off overly ambitious (or worse, pretentious).

He’d send them if they were significant festivals or major awards. These are medium sized festivals.

@madbean @WWWard in case you have additional thoughts

^DS decided to submit the updated info

Does anyone have any information on interviews? How do they work? When do they do them? Does everyone get one?

@paceorama Interviews are generated by SCA faculty by those who deem them helpful. They are not offered to everyone, and in the past, they have been perceived as being designed possibly for those on the bubble or for those where additional info may be required or sought after. And historically, they are not really a predictor one way or the other, as many get in without them and many also do not get in after receiving one. Some of course do get in after interviewing though. SCA is of course ultra-competitive. Interviews are just one extra tool for the decision-makers when they deem such important. I have been an observer of this process for the past five years, and I would like to tell you that getting or not getting an interview request is a strong indicator… but the results have been rather inconsistent. If offered or requested, just do your best and put your best self forward in the process. That is all anyone can do.

Good luck…

Has any SCA applicant been offered an interview from this pool?

I ask because at last year’s info sessions (both university and SCA), we were told interviews would no longer be conducted as part of the admissions process. Scholarship interviews would remain.

I haven’t seen anyone from SCA that has been nominated for the Trustee Schomarship.

Does anyone know if someone has?

yes, 18 cinema majors have been admitted and invited to compete for one of the top scholarships. 7 of them specifically for Trustee.

Thank you @s0meUSCkid95

Do you know if any of them were international students?

I don’t know if any are international.
