@cgb2017 yes, a handful of students (3 or 4) have already been accepted into Cinema’s writing program. At USC, there are only two decision release dates for freshmen. One in late January (for major scholarship finalists and other specific groups of students) and the other on March 23rd. If a student wasn’t admitted in January, then they won’t hear until March, regardless of the major. The central admissions office makes all of the decisions for undergrads, so you’ll have to wait to hear from them next month.
Jumping on here after @WWWard directed me here from the main USC discussion thread~
I applied to the BFA Film/TV Production program. I have a Facetime/phone interview with a SCA professor in a couple hours today. Super nervous, but I’m looking forward to it.
Good luck!! @Wynn22
@PolarKode Thank you! I’ll report back later on how it went ^^
@s0meUSCkid95 thanks for the insight - I thought there might be a letter from SCA that came separate from the letter from USC – but it souns like I will get a “you’re accept to USC in X major” or “you’re rejected from USC”
Congrats @Wynn22 that must be a great sign!!
Did anyone else get a phone call interview? Should we assume no call, no admittance?
No. Historically, it has not meant anything definitive one way or the other. Many get in without an interview. Many get rejected without an interview. Some are interviewed and then get in… and some are interviewed and still get rejected.
I have read speculation before that it may be a way to decide for those “on the bubble”. In other words, if they are certain that they want to admit you or reject you, an interview may not be warranted or necessary. So interviews may be for those in the middle… for those they need clarification from. Of course, this all just remains speculative. But, I would think that being asked to interview at least sounds more reassuring than not. I would like the idea of them wanting to interview my daughter. She of course would feel additional stress if so.
I guess that time will tell…
Just finished the interview. It was only about 15 minutes long, but I thought it went quite well and the professor and I really connected toward the end. My nerves are completely calm now lol phew. As many people said, it really was just a casual conversation with a teacher who wants to get to know you.
She let me ask her questions, then asked me some. The main questions were basically why I find film an interesting medium, the making of and thought process behind my video, and anything interesting/unique about me. She said the interview wasn’t going to guarantee I get admitted, but she wanted to talk people she felt “had promise” and I’m sure her notes do have some weight in the decision-making.
I’m optimistic. We’ll see what gets sent in March!
Congratulations! Can I ask what your GPA is and did you submit an entire portfolio or just one film?
@Lalo Thanks My unweighted GPA is 3.825, while my weighted is 4.400. I did everything I was required to do on the Slideroom website. Specifically, I did the dialogue scene for the writing sample and the video option for the portfolio section.
Wow! I was asking because my son has applied but his GPA is not as high as yours and he has not received a request for an interview.
@Lalo I wouldn’t worry too much about GPA or interview requests! USC looks at different parts of the application, including the personal essay and the portfolio. Sure, GPA may carry some importance, but the other aspects of the application are equally, or more important. As for the interview, I’ve heard not everyone who was admitted to SCA were asked for an interview, and not everyone interviewed are necessarily accepted. I wish your son the best!
Thank you for the kinds words on not giving up … made my day. I wish you the best, also!

Ugh…
If you also applied to UTexas for Film, the final wave of decisions are being announced online at this time. Good luck to those applicants. My daughter was thankfully admitted there today. So there is at least some good news today while she continues to wait on USC SCA…
@WWWard I got into RTF at UT yesterday too! Will be a good option if USC doesn’t work out.
@cgb2017 Congrats! Yes… it is always good to have a back-up plan…
Hey guys, I just got an email about a phone interview but I really thought I botched this application. One of my supplements wasn’t finished and I didn’t really think I would’ve had a chance had it been anyway. Did I get the email because everybody gets an interview?
If you submitted all the materials you should have gotten a yay or nay e-mail regarding interview, most the people got the e-mail two weeks ago. Curious about the phone interview…are you out of the country?
And to answer your question, only about 50 or so get an interview out of 350 approx.
