***USC School of Cinematic Arts (Class of 2021 Discussion/Results)***

Just want to remind folks that if they don’t get in or aren’t accepted for cinema, transferring is worth considering.

Our D was a transfer into USC from community college in HI. She applied after her 1st semester of CC. She started USC after completing 3 semesters of CC. After being admitted undeclared (she wasn’t notified until late July), she appplied to and was accepted into SCA as a media studies major and got her degree from USC. She really enjoyed her years at USC.

My daughter spoke to the admissions contact for our region a few weeks back and was told if your guidance counselor sends in mid year grades then there is no need to input them through the yousc portal. So you are all good!

@iconiclife 3 years ago, my older daughter (now at USC) did not do so because her GC uploaded them to the Common Application, but then her Admission Counselor at USC actually emailed her directly asking her to self-report her mid term grades as well. You may recall that they ask you to do the same on the Common Application (while most colleges do not). I suggest just doing so… since they are clearly requesting that all applicants do it. But, I guess that you can also just wait and see if your AC asks you to supply that info.

Does anyone know about the George Lucas Foundation Endowed Student Support Fund for Diversity and the Cohen Scholarships? I tried asking admissions but I have yet to receive a response.

@PolarKode I have a friend wondering about that as well. I assume it would be awarded at admission because it’s probably not considered part of financial aid but rather as a merit award? I really don’t know though.

I guess I don’t have to worry about mid year grades - thanks everyone!

Just got into Boston university for their college of communication! They didn’t give me any money though (yikes) so I’ll try to appeal. If it doesn’t work out, at least for the time being it’s made me ecstatic!

Congrats @iconiclife
My son was rejected (which was a little surprising)

I got waitlisted from Boston University college of communication. I don’t think I put as much effort into their application as I did for SCA

I started a GroupMe for film applicants (2021 Film Applicants). If you would like to join, the GroupMe link is: https://■■■■■■■■■■■/join_group/29766306/TUhTGC
While waiting for college results, I started a YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/duckvduct . I would love feedback!

@sweetbell @iconiclife Only 25% were accepted to BU this year, they had over 60,000 apps and the average sat was 1450 average act 32!!! That’s insane. My son (applying from New York) had little chance of acceptance.
Imagine what USCs numbers are going to look like!

Sorry if this has been answered before but are SCA acceptances/rejections mailed with the regular USC admission (that is suppose to come out Thursday of this week)? I know you can be admitted to the school without being admitted to SCA so did they let you know at the same time or a little later?

@futureauteur Everyone should probably assume they will find out at the same time because the admissions department has not said anything to indicate otherwise.

@futureauteur Yes. The decision mailed Thursday will either be a rejection overall, an admission to USC and to your first choice major, an admission to USC and to your second choice major or an admission to USC but “undeclared” as to your major. Good luck…

The question came yesterday in my own household… what if it is that final option? i.e. no SCA. My daughter’s reply, “undeclared as well”. I suspect that most SCA applicants would go elsewhere if they at least had a solid admit to a film school that they feel good about vs. attending USC with only hopes of a transfer into SCA or settling on a different major altogether.

thanks @WWWard and @filmstudent2 hopefully we’ll all be getting that first option

@futureauteur you’re welcome. hopefully so…

@WWWard , and yet another option–admission to Spring semester. Yikes.

@madbean wow… really? For all SCA majors or just some?

I know someone that was accepted spring admit for production and they did it and they are currently a student and very happy!

The discussion in our house is that he would accept spring admit for production, but would not accept if it was not his first choice major, even if fall admit ( normal). But this is all so hypothetical because it is such a long shot that he gets in, in ANY capacity!

Interesting. I currently suspect that my daughter would accept and attend SCA for either major… fall or spring.
