I noticed that Madeline Puzo is not listed as the Dean any longer (she is still a Professor). David Bridel is listed as the Interim Dean. Anyone know the background? @Madbean, @MsMommy, @casadelewis ?
I know a couple of years ago there was student dissension and some vocal unhappiness that two part-time professors were not renewed as instructors. Is this fallout from that?
My daughter will be a junior this year so I have no background on part-time professors from several years ago.that were not renewed. My daughter is very happy with the program and has had many wonderful, vibrant, and arts connected professors. They know their stuff! Yes, Dean Puzo, after 13 years as Schools of Dramatic Arts Dean, is stepping down but will still be involved in the arts. It’s just a new phase for her and we all wish her well!
My son is an incoming freshman. He is very excited to begin at SDA. We spoke with Dean Puzo for a few minutes at the open house and she seemed very pleasant and involved. My son also met Professor Bridel and said he liked him a lot. My son and I were just discussing and wondering if Dean Puzo decided it was time to hand over the reins or if there are issues he was not aware of. The term “Interim Dean” made me wonder if this was unexpected. If planned why not have an Dean selected to assume the helm. Of course there can be many professional and personal reason for the timing. I hope Dean Puzo enjoys her less demanding time demand in her new role.
Hi, RALdad. My son did give me this news, but didn’t have any additional info. There hasn’t been any communication from USC or SDA regarding this. I think they announce this year’s shows soon…and possibly there will be an update then. FWIW, my son doesn’t think the resignation will have any real impact on the program. My understanding is that Dean Puzo did a great job establishing relationships with outside contacts and really grew the internship program. It will be interesting to see how the transition unfolds.
