USC acting BA, BFA

Has anyone heard back from them? On the other boards there are a lot of USC acceptances to other schools/departments but have any actors been admitted yet?

There is a mom who posts here, "actingmom", whose daughter was accepted for acting at USC.

My D is still waiting to hear. Received one acceptance so far. USC couldn't find her senior grades so we resent them. Just check to make sure they have everything, then check again!

I got into Chapman and Santa Clara but am still waiting on USC and NYU. Who knows.... Good luck to your daughter!

Hi marbar 101 - my D heard by mail - on Friday the 7th. She knows of one other boy who heard - by mail - the same day - and then another boy who received a call from the School of Theatre last week. That's it so far - all of her other friends are still waiting to hear. Hope this helps! Good Luck!!!

thanks. congrats to her and her friends. Are they BFA or BA? I'm stressing partly because the BFA acting program said they only take 18-20 freshman each year, and it's what I want more than anything....

Hi marbar 101 - yes all 3 were for the bfa program --- I agree it is an amazing school and program! Don't give up hope, it doesn't appear they have sent out all the acceptances. Good luck!!!

crashes thread

i asked this over on the transfer board but no one seemed to have a specific answer, but does anyone know when transfers will know their decision for the BA track? i realize it's for second choice, but i'm now realizing i'd rather do that than my first choice, so i was wondering if Theatre will release their decision separately or in conjunction with the admissions decision (i.e. like some schools may accept academically but wait on artistic and vice versa). thanks!

what they told us in the auditions was that first we'll get a letter of acceptance from the school which will also say if we got our 1st or 2nd choice of major; then awhile later we'll get an invitation letter from School of Theatre. Don't know if it works the same way for transfers or not....

thanks marbar101! you are the first person who actually answered my question in a language i can understand :o) i don't know if it works that way for transfers, but since it looks like i'll be waiting until may to even know if i got into SC, but at least i have an idea. since i applied for BA track i wasn't really sure about protocol, especially for second choice (although now i'm regretting not putting is as first choice since their program encourages work and flexibility!)

I have been accepted to the BFA acting program, but I am not sure that I will take it because I've heard that it is a program purely for straight theatre with a discouraging tone toward film acting or musical theatre and I feel like it would not prepare me as fully for a professional career due today's demand for triple threats.

But hey, I could be wrong. We'll see where life takes me. Best wishes for your application!

cusp

As an industry pro please let me help you gain some perspective. Patti Lupone graduated from Juilliard and seems to have done pretty well in musical theatre! As an actor a thorough grounding in theatre-working on challenging time tested material from the great plays-will assure you develop your craft in the fullest possible manner. In addition with such a major film program on campus I"m quite certain acting majors will have opportunities to audition for those projects-giving opportunities to work in front of a camera.

cusp - I sent you a private message

Just for what it's worth....Chapman is opening a new major for Acting for Film. Too late for this year, but I thought I'd put it out here so people would know about it.

Since my S will be studying film production at Chapman, I was happy to hear this. Maybe he will be able to get talented actors for his films!

Timely,
That's interesting about Chapman. Can you share what you know about the acting program at Chapman? Several posters have asked about it or mentioned it in previous posts but there isn't much known about it here in NJ. My son was admitted for acting and they have offered a nice scholarship so we will visit Chapman when we visit Irvine(for MT) next week. Thanks!

You probably already know this about Chapman but after two years in the BA, you can audition for the BFA track. While it is in acting, there are MT opportunities at Chapman. One of my students last year chose Chapman.

PS...I now realize who you are and that I had recommended Chapman and UC Irvine to your son as good possibilities for him and I am glad to hear he got in and has these options.

Yes, I have been soaking up all the good advice on CC and trying to share what information and support I have. Your carefully thought out list was very helpful to us during this process--as has been your advice and that of others on CC. What a wild ride!!!!!!!! It looks like my S will be surrounded by palm trees next year and his beach will be on the Pacific rather than the Atlantic. I will post his decision once we return from California. Thanks again!

I have student at Chapman. The BFA selections came out last week and there are some heartbroken kids. Just to let you know that it sounds good when you start and everyone thinks they will be chosen, but that is not the case - jsut too many who want to be in the program and not enough room. Same thing with the BFA screen acting this week. Sad - kids who have spent all their lives performing, studying film or theatre and now they're out. So while I'm not trying to be negative, be sure you're willing to accept a BA if you choose Chapman.

bumping for transfer decisions. has anyone heard yet?
