USC SGR Transfer Thread 2011

@transferguy2011 i’m an Annenberg applicant and i also talked to my counselor about that whole Stats thing. he said it was not a requirement at all, just “recommended for upper-level classes” like the transfer sheet says. so pretty much, it means nothing haha.

i applied with a 3.813 from Indiana University and I’m a part of the Trojan Transfer Plan. I applied as a first choice Comm major and second choice Gender Studies.

i got an SGR on May 13, and USC received my transcript on the 18. i probably won’t hear until July i bet :/

Are any of you freshman transfers?
If you don’t mind me asking, what are your GPAs and E.C.s?

Is a SGR a bad thing?

Well actually depending on what math courses you have taken stats can be important… for me it was because it fulfilled the math requirement because my other math class didnt transfer. So without it they wont even look at your app

I have a question I am a sophmore transfer my fall gpa was 3.5

would it be okay for spring if I got a 3.5 again? or do they want to see me get a 3.7? overall…?

@ellomeno…where are you getting the 3.7 gpa from??? are you referring to what USC states about the average gpa of last years transfers???

BTW please excuse my errors in ALL of my posts…gawd horrible sentence structure etc., lol…no bueno!..in one post I say “run over my grades…” instead of “run my grades over to usc” LMAO…still sounds so elementary. ha.

Good night, all!

which math requirement does USC have? i thought they only required up to Algebra 2 for Comm majors

Hi guys,

I’m a freshman transfer too… well i guess that’s what I am. I’ve never heard that term used before but I applied to transfer while I was a freshman so I assume that’s what it means. YAY I’m so glad that year is over ;P.
I got an SGR in the mail… a while ago… I can’t remember when… at least 2 weeks ago. So I sent in my transcript yesterday  My GPA went up from a 3.666 to a 3.74 because I busted my a$$ taking the maximum number of credits my spring semester and getting a 3.8.
My status hasn’t been updated yet  IM SOOOO NERVOUS!!! AHHHHHH!!!
Also quick question. Why does everyone keep talking about Stats like its so important? I mean I took stat this semester… and got an A. But I don’t see how it could be so important that they would SGR someone for it. I mean I took APcalc in high school so they know I’m not incompetent. And I applied as “undecided” so it can’t be for my major. So im just a little confused.
Wow ok this was really long haha sry :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

i mean to say would it be fine if i stay at a 3.5 after this semester or would they like to see me rise to a 3.7? as if I get a 4.0 this semester my overall gpa would be a 3.75

I am applying and am a freshman. I have only completed one year at school… When I applied to USC, I had 15 units… now I have 28 units, without counting AP credit. I know they will be looking mainly at my high school and first semester records.

I had a 2120 for my SAT and a 4.5 weighted from high school. I got a 3.88 first semester and maintained the same exact GPA second semester. I am applying for CLAS. Do you think I have a chance, even with being a freshman and applying late…

I am so nervous… I got the SGR on May 13th.

I didn’t get an SGR in the mail and it doesn’t say anything about spring grades in my status, but they requested another transcript from my college in my documents portal… do you guys have something similar in your portals?

@dreamupsided0wn that’s what happened to me. my status said nothing about SGRs, but my documents portal requested an SGR. majorrrrrr bummer.

call the admissions office!!

So getting an SGR are they holding ‘spots’ for us technically?

it seems a lot of people are getting them, so I am just wondering… & again I ask for previous SGR’erss is okay to keep the same gpa as applied with or improve it? I mean I know it does not hurt to make your gpa higher but is it a downfall if I stay the same? I am trying but I just took a killer math final

SGR received end April they got early this week , now says committee reviewing is this good or bad things seem to be moving quickly?

I was wondering the same thing about them holding “spots” for us. I’m not sure if it works that way.

And I believe they want to see your GPA remain the same or go up. Last year when I received an SGR, my spring grades ended up being lower than my previous semesters so I feel that was why I was inevitably rejected. I’ve maintained a 3.75 this semester which will boost my overall GPA so I’m hoping that is enough to get me in  I feel like SC wouldn’t have given people SGR’s if they weren’t somewhat interested in us lol

I just got into Annenberg today! I sent in my spring grades a little less than a week ago too.

75 untis completed, 3.88 overall GPA. 13 units were in progress for the spring which i had all A’s. I was taking a theater arts class, astronomy, psychology, and statistics.

Now i have to decide between UCLA and USC! and maybe a few others…

unfortunately they don’t hold spots for us that’s why so many SGR people get in for the spring semester, they were good enough for admission but there was no spots open for fall.

@Wunnyne congrats!! what was your gpa at the time of you sending your application,
how much is the deposit fee?

@PT4USC yeah thanks, I am hoping so too which school did you apply to and what is your major?

sooo prior spring 2011 i had a 3.85 with 62 units completed.

Now i have 75 units completed with a 3.88 GPA.

I took 4 classes this spring and got all A’s.

And it says $300 by june 1st or a fee waiver
