Convince me which school to attend. I am too confused, am outgoing but not a partier. I am looking for an exciting four years that will let me do new things, but again not party hard solely.

What are the cost of attending for these schools?

Both Irvine and Davis are 30,000. USC is 60,000 but provides financial aid (I just havent recieved it yet) Assuming all of the schools are around the same price, I am wondering which one to go to.

Or if USC is worth a higher price (maybe if at 40,000)

What does USC’s net price calculator say? Will USC give a financial aid offer before you decide?

As a USC spring admit, you can take courses at a community college, cutting the overall price somewhat (by taking 1 semester of cheap community college followed by 7 semesters of expensive USC).

One other question is, will you be in the major at each school, or will you have to change into the major, possibly subject to an admissions process?

For Davis I would have to change my major (but it has a relatively easy process), as long as you get a 2.0 you are guaranteed. For Irvine, I can most likely declare at orientation, and for usc I would have to wait atleast a semester if not more and get B’s or better.

USC seems to be taking a while for financial aid, but I am estimating that it would be around 40,000 after the financial aid calculator. If it is this or more, is all of it worth it? Or can davis or irvine give that exciting atmosphere so to say without the city life? I am not a big partier I just want new experiences.

Seems like USC is higher risk in terms of being able to get into the major than UCD or UCI. If you go to USC, would you be ok doing an alternate major if you cannot get into the CS major?

You don’t have to party at USC. You also can change major easily at USC. There is no risk on that front, much easier than the UCs. The risk is the financial part, can you afford it. I think those 3 schools are comparable in Computer Science but at USC you can easily major or minor in anything you like. USC encourages inter-disciple. Check out Renaissance Scholar.
If I remember the rankings correctly, it goes USC>UCI>UCD

I mean to be honest, I want to be able to do some type of engineering, and if I can’t do that, then Im not too sure what I would end up doing. I know, USC seems like such a risk. It just seems so appealing considering its ranking and I guess the student mentality of a trojan family. I am just really confused given that either everything could go well, or everything could not. The other two seem like much more safer options. But I am confused that if I take the safer option, will I regret it.

If USC is $60K and the other 2 are $30K then I would pick the UCs. But if USC comes in around $40K, then I think it’s not too much of a difference. How did your brother pay for it? Loans?

He got a scholarship.

That makes sense though. I guess im just worried about integrating as a spring semester student while everyone is already used to school.

If USC is not financially possible then I think UCI is the best option for Computer Science. But then again it depends on what you prefer, my kid would prefer UCI, she does not like UCD environment, and she didn’t even apply to UCD.

And if USC is financially possible?

after aid and what not

Not necessarily, as it depends on the major. For CS:

USC (CS is in engineering): all B or higher grades in math/science/engineering courses means admission. Lower grades in these courses mean review for admission or denial. More than one C- or any D+ or lower means denial. http://viterbi.usc.edu/students/undergrad/advisement/changeofmajor.htm
UCD: C average in CS courses. http://www.cs.ucdavis.edu/undergrad/csmajor/declare.html
UCI: 2.0 overall and in CS and math courses. http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_ICS.html

For CS in particular, UCD and UCI are easier to change major into than USC.
