Hey there i applied to thornton as a music industry major B.S. for fall 2010. I am a transfer student and i was wondering if it would be recommended to send in samples of my music to better improve my chances. I make hip hop beats and have songs with rappers on them. Would this be a good thing to do so that Thornton could see how much i can do with recording? I want to be a producer one day! Or am I just wasting my time with that? Would they really even listen to the CD if I sent one in?

Thanks!

exhOrder17, unless I’m mistaken, an “audition” recording is only required for the BM music industry program. I would both check here and call the department to get the best answer:

yes only for the B.M. degree is there a required audition. For the B.S. degree there is no audition required. However, I was just wondering to see if it would help my chances of admission if i were to send in samples of my recordings.

I do not know if they will bother to listen. I would suggest that you be careful about sending them remixed versions of existing commercial recordings if that is what you were contemplating. If you were to send them a recording full of copyright violations, that might not make them very happy. If you were to send them the same recording with evidence that you obtained the proper permission and/or paid any applicable licensing fees before making the remix, then they could be very favorably impressed that you have done your homework.
