USC Music Industry major

i have two questions
1) how hard is it to get into this major?
2)What do i need to do in highschool to increase my chances of getting accepted?
right now ive got a 3.7 GPA in all AP classes in varsity choir, in the school musical, performing out side of school in local places, and im about to start recording and writing some music and learn guitar. What else can i do to be able to get into this major?

ive hearn it has a 4% acceptance rate for the major but i was hoping someone could confirm this or tell me this is false.

bump!bump!bump!

Sean,
You might want to pose this question on the CC Music Forum. This major is so specialized it might be more informative to ask those who are in the industry now.

Good luck.

I think user adambedford is applying to that program or a similar music/business program, so you may want to ask him.

Yeah I am applying to this major, but unfortunately I never really found the answers to the questions above.

With regards to doing things to increase your chances of acceptance, I suggest finding some internships in the business - this is what I did and I learned a lot. The Thornton supplemental application will ask you for your resume and I used this space to talk about the internships that I did, the things I learned during them and spoke a little bit more about other experience I had with music production.

Are you applying for the BSc or the BMus? I think that might make a difference as to what they look for as the BMus requires an audition and so I imagine they will expect to see much more performance related things on the resume. The audition will also play a part in your acceptance/rejection.

Sorry I don’t have too much information (I’ve searched quite a bit and there simply doesn’y seem to be much of it out there unfortunately) but hopefully I’ve helped a little!

There’s another user on here that I saw post in a USC FAQ sort of thread, her username was wanderlusting and she is currently in the program so you may want to look through her posts.

im going into BMusic because ive been doing performing and about to start writing and recording music, also im auditioning for the Texas all state choir next year which how things in choir are going i could very possibly get a spot in that.

Also i had one my qustion is your EC and overall experience/talent more important for admission or is it more acedemics?
