I've heard that the book lists show up on OASIS sometime between class registration and the start of the semester, but it seems like they won't be available for awhile. Can anyone tell me which textbook USC Thornton typically uses for the Theory I (and/or concurrent aural skills) class, or who I should contact to find out quickly? I want to know what it is (and maybe obtain a copy) early because I'm hoping to place out of Theory I when they give us our diagnostic tests in the fall. I'd like to figure out the differences between what I've learned in AP Theory and what they teach in Theory I so I can learn anything I missed or brush up on things the textbook emphasizes more than AP does. Scores for AP haven't come in yet but I'm confident that I got a 4 or 5.

Also, if anyone here happens to know of any content differences between AP Music Theory and Thornton's Theory/Aural Skills I, I'd appreciate it if you'd PM me or post it here. Thanks!

I took AP Music Theory in high school and, while I didn’t take Theory at USC (was hoping a 5 would have waived a class or two!) I helped a bunch of my friends with their homework.

Theory I and APMT are pretty much the same class. In fact, depending on your AP class, you might have learned more than is covered in Theory I. What textbook did you use in AP? (My AP textbook was Tonal Harmony and I found myself using it as a supplementary text all throughout college. It’s still on my bookshelf and I reference it constantly. http://www.amazon.com/Tonal-Harmony-Stefan-Kostka/dp/0072852607/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308018406&sr=1-1)

If you scored a 5 in APMT, you’ll be fine. A 4 could probably be enough skill to test you out, too.

Not sure about the aural skills either – but I am sure the above holds true for that class as well.
