USC Viterbi AME vs U Michigan

My S has been lucky enough to be accepted at both schools for mechanical engineering.

USC offered full tuition and he would be a "Viterbi Undegraduate Fellow" and on the honors program. Michigan is OOS tuition.

The thing is, Michigan was his dream school, and he is really sure he wants to do ME as his career. He's very social, loves sports, and doesn't care about the weather at UM (he's visited twice).

$200k matters for sure, but we budgeted for UM and so the money is there. I'm sure he'll do a masters, and will try hard for a 5 year combined at either school. He's also really keen to do SAE projects, research etc.

Any thoughts?

USC offers a very popular 5 year program that provides BS/MS. There is a lot you and he could do with the savings of USC over UM. Perhaps he can start at USC and see how it goes. If he really wants to transfer, he can apply and have saved you a year or two of tuition. USC is social and has sports. It also has 38% female engineering students, which he may also like. :)
