Hey any thoughts would be really helpful i got into both USC and Babson and planning on doing a major in Business Admin! i need help deciding!! :)

Please someone comment i neeed advice! pros/cons of both would be helpful

Ank,

This is difficult as the two are so completely different. Babson is a very small college, less than 2000 students, located in Massachusetts. It is known for the business specialty, entrepreneurship. The faculty student ratio is 13/1. Freshmen retention is 94%. There is a Greek presence, the same percentage as at SC. It is not the most well known small college. Acceptance rate is 40%.

USC is highly selective research university with an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and offers over 150 majors. The student body comes from all over the world. It has more international students than any other U.S. university. Marshall has a global outlook, with emphasis on Asia and global business. It also is known for a fine entrepreneurship program. However, there are also top notch programs in international business, real estate and accounting. USC is expected to admit about 22% of applicants this year. Marshall is ranked 10th in the nation by U.S. News for undergraduate business. Faculty student ratio is 9/1, which is excellent for a large university.

Marshall also offers well known institutes, freshmen travel abroad, unique dual majors such as Bus. Ad. and Cinematic Arts, alumni mentors and the Trojan family. Marshall is known, as well, for their job preparation support features.

ank, this is a case where you really do have to visit both schools. Which would fit YOU the best?

I have exactly the same problem. What they have told me is that L.A isn’t such a great city and that Boston is better.

When the Mrs. and I were first married we lived less than 1 mile from Babson (“Geez Vinceh you sure have moved around a lot!” Your right, we have lived a lot of different places over the years - Damn witness protection program ;)). Many of our neighbors were professors there. Babson is very well known around the Boston area and its name is becoming increasingly well-known on the East Coast. As has been mentioned, Babson is especially known for its entrepreneurship program, oftentimes winning awards as best in the country. If you are going for the entrepreneurship program it will be hard to find a better school.

On the other hand if you have any doubts about the track you want to pursue in B-School then USC will offer a broader, more widely recognized name than Babson. If you want to start your career in California obviously USC will offer more connections there than Babson. Conversely Babson will trump USC hands-down in the greater Boston area. Of course, if you truly possess the entrepreneurs mentality you won’t care if you have to set up a business on Mars, you’ll be ready to go.

Babson is not in Boston, it is located in the sleepy bedroom community of Wellesley Massachusetts about 20 miles west of the city. Getting into Boston involves a 1/2 mile walk to the commuter rail station and a 20 minute ride into the city. Personally I think Boston is the greatest college city around, but Babo isn’t in Boston. Campus abuts the Wellesley Country Club and upper middle class neighborhoods. Campus is very woodsy, beautiful and quiet. The Greek scene is very quiet.

On the flip side, USC is very close to downtown LA. You’ll see more cars in one day at SC than you’ll see in a month at Babson. Occasionally a lot is made of the area surrounding SC, but in two visits I’ve never been accosted, mugged or even shot - in short I don’t know what the fuss is about. The only way the two environments could be more different would be if Babson was located in rural Maine.

Babson does a great job bringing in other entrepreneurs to support their classwork. I feel USC offers the better overall business education. Suburban Boston versus downtown LA is a personal decision only you can make. Good Luck.
