I'm thinking of majoring in art or art history with a minor in pre-med. However, I would rather go to an "all rounder" university than to an art institute. I am considering USC, Emory, and Northwestern, but I don't know which one has the better art program.

I don't even know if any of the above schools have good art programs at all, so if anyone knows of other top universities that have good art and pre-med programs, please post!

Emory, while it does have a very solid art history and “pre-med” program, recently cut quite a bit of money from its art department. I wouldn’t recommend the school for any potential art majors.

Northwestern has a gem of a very well known and very highly respected Art History Dept. Small with deep resources - on campus at places like the Block Museum, in Chicago at places like the Art Institute. Essentially LAC-like teaching supported by large university depth. Can’t say enough good things about it.

Studio Art is another story. Little I can offer in this regard.

Northwestern is very academically broad. Engineering, chemistry, premed, journalism, art, communications, ect. Good at most everything and art/art history is no exception.

@Sam Lee yes, I heard CMU has an excellent fine arts program as well, but I am not sure I want to go there as much. I am definitely considering it, but compared to Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago, i find Pittsburgh to be more boring.
