i know the trojan network for usc gets a lot of praise, but I've read and heard that uiuc has a strong alumni network as well and that both networks are strongest in their respective locations, California for usc and the midwest/chicago for uiuc.

i'm from illinois but i don't necessarily want to end up in illinois or chicago for my career. can someone compare the two school's alumni networks for a business major?

You’ve pretty much summed it up - alumni networks are stronger the closer they are to the “mothership”. Illinois will win in the mid-west and USC will win in California. After that they, both lose out to the local university alumni network - example: In Atlanta both of them lose out to Georgia Tech and Georgia.

Alumni networks are nice, but just remember, it’s still about your performance on the job. By your second job it will be about what you accomplished on your first job, not where you went to school.
