USC vs UMich for CS

I need help picking between USC and UMich- Ann Arbor!

UMich LSA Major: Statistics and Data Science (very easy to double major) or Computer Science

USC Dornsife Major: Intelligence and Cyber Operations (maybe double with Data Science but need to apply) or will try to internal transfer Viterbi for Computer Science

Tuition is similar for both.

I’m planning to apply for MBA, so school name/brand is sort of important.

Also considering the school environment/reputation. So, which school has the better academic reputation when applying for jobs/internships.

Actually, the school brand barely matters for b-school apps.

Go with fit. Where would you rather be?

Actually, I will add that if you are certain about wanting CS/Data Science, go with UMich. That USC Intelligence and Cyber major is very light on technical classes.

FYI, at UMich you can minor in Ross Business, if you apply and are accepted.

If you’re thinking worldwide academic reputation, then it’s UMich. In the US, they’re similar enough, but I’d still give a slight edge to UMich.

Both are excellent schools, but if you’re trying to get a CS degree, then I’d suggest UMich. And you can either get your CS degree in LSA or, if you meet the academic requirements, then you can always transfer to CoE and get your CS degree there too. Although both programs are similar, but not exact.

Do you want great weather in an large city or do you prefer one of the best college towns, but lousy winter weather in A2?

Agree with this. The USC intelligence and cyber operations looks like a mix of political science / international relations and some lower level technical or semi-technical course work: https://catalogue.usc.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=8&poid=10344&returnto=2401
