So I got admitted into both colleges for undergrad this year. On one hand while I prefer the reputation, brand-name and location of USC I’m also worried about how its considered to be a major party school. UW Madison is also shown to have a great comp sci department and job opportunities. Ive also been hearing that the UW-Madison computer science department is more prestigious than that of USC. So I’m kind of stuck between these two for now
USC major party school? ROTFLMFAO. UW Madison is legendary for its perennial binge scene. One of my good buddies went there and explained alcoholism runs rampant. Please be careful and do your research:

Between USC and UW Madison for computer science? USC, hands down. Not even close. The University of Illinois or Purdue would be a different story, but between USC and UW Madison, it’s USC hands down. And beyond rankings, there isn’t ANY tech industry in south central Wisconsin (there’s nothing in south central Wisconsin to begin with) beyond it being the state capital and a cool college town, but you’d have to uproot and leave after graduation which certainly isn’t the case with USC.
Both schools are on a lot of those party school lists, BTW. I wouldn’t pay much attention to them. USC especially has a “work hard play hard” culture befitting its rankings but people don’t get there by accident and know to get the job done with the schoolwork before they let loose.
Bottom line… 90% of the world’s computer industry is in California. 90% of venture capital firms are in California. Silicon Valley is in California. USC students start all sorts of tech businesses in their dorms. In Madison, they drink and go cow tipping. No comparison.
Agreed here USC hands down… but USCAlum05 Well. How about a comparison between USC and Purdue for comp Sci…
