When did you guys turn in everything for financial aid? I received an email several days ago to turn in some financial documents (sign maybe?) but mine says Unknown and Unknown.

Honestly, I feel bad for starting this thread it seems like I started a lot of stress… Don’t put too much into this I just noticed it and thought it might mean something…Even if it does there is nothing you can do about it now so why worry. Enjoy the spring weather and the end of senior year.

^ You shouldn’t feel bad, these things tend to happen every year. It is USC’s fault for not coding their site better and having these things visible at this point.

i would say that’s a good sign. For my S it says unknown , unknown so that is making me worried now. I thought he had good chance at USC. But losing some hope now.

Dont lose hope, like @artsandletters and @alamemom have said - in the past this kind of speculation has been inaccurate. USConnect is one of the most integrated applicant status sites I have seen. It also has a long history of glitches and false updates that lead to this speculation. If a decision is going to come through its going to be under the admissions tab. What I am hypothesizing is the financial aid tab is drawing from some source to fill the major and undergrad notification - the source is probably your application file and not the final decision, undergrad probably refers to the classification you are applying to. Traditionally, and this includes other schools, FA awards are handed out a week or so after admission notification - nothing is finalized. I saw this update 7 days ago and thought nothing of it, I still don’t. It could be that they haven’t updated yet or that the FA department has no real idea who has been accepted. This late in the game I am confident that the Adcom has made final decisions, but they are probably in the process of coordinating the delivery of said decisions. I would not take a notification so clearly seen in USConnect as a sign - backdoors usually are harder to get to. I would suggest that we all just calm down and keep our fingers crossed, we will know soon enough.

Keep in mind that you are looking at a financial aid update and financial aid will not be complete until the end of the first week of April. Even if the update “means” something, financial aid is NOT updated all at once but rather on an ongoing basis through the end of the first week of April (and in many cases beyond that time as they gather additional documents and information). It could be that “unknown/unknown” simply means financial aid has not gotten to your file yet regardless of what admissions has decided.

yoskis, combing USConnect for clues about decisions is a time-honored tradition here on college confidential :). Applicants used to create threads thousands of posts long dissecting the many status changes. USC has significantly reduced the number of status changes in response and plugged the little holes here and there (they check in on cc every now and then and patch things up as you applicants find them), but the applicants are so clever they keep finding new clues. Don’t feel bad for being a tiny bit more clever than USC and, if the hint on the FA page disappears in the next few days, consider that you actually helped them by pointing out a flaw in the system.

Applicants: Don’t celebrate until an official decision is received (others have jumped the gun in the past and experienced significant disappointment) and don’t despair until you get the final word from USC themselves (others have received no clues and have been accepted).

Best of luck to all Try not to stress.

Mine is unknown and unknown, but my application is “action required”. My financial case is a bit of a weird situation. I think that you shouldn’t take this as the final word guys

If you’ve received a merit scholarship (directors, trustee, presidential), what does it say under your FA tab?

If this is a random thing, why some people got first and some got second major listed?

@kerning Someone posted that they received one and it had their first choice major listed.

That’s what I was thinking @AZParent

I’ll be preparing for a rejection… What are your stats and status in the FA page?

has anybody thought to just email the admissions office asking if the FA portal is being glitchy?

@Lefttenant by the time the admissions office would get back to us it we would already have the decisions

unknown
Unknown
But I’m a transfer student so idk if my application has even been reviewed yet

well it seems that the majority of people are unknown and only a few have first choice with even fewer having second choice or undeclared. Like what has been said before, I highly doubt that this is any real clue (especially since it is so blatantly there on the FA tab). I dont have any explanation for why or why the varying answers but we will know soon enough. I wonder though to all those who applied to SCA, what does you FA status say. SCA takes a longer time to determine acceptances, so I highly doubt that they have completed the task to the point where the FA department knows and can update. We will know in two days though, or three or four depending on where you are. Best of Luck everyone!

Lol this FA status thing ruinedddd my spring break so far. Can’t function

@kerning I was one of the scholarship recipients. My FA tab says it’s still in review. Upper right hand corner is name and my admitted major. I’m in SCA

Can I just go to sleep and not wake up until all my decisions are in?

@Lefttenant is your username a reference to Sleepy Hollow?

And I don’t know what this actually means but it could be a clue. And Roy, for us transfers it may not change soon (if it does mean anything). I’m just trying not to read into it too deeply.
