We need to find someone who was accepted and has Unknown in his/her FA page.

Also have Class: undergraduate major: first choice major
It probably doesn’t mean anything, but at the same time there is a chance it does. I don’t remember the situation exactly but earlier this year (in january) a few people tried “reading some tea leaves” and it ended up accurately predicting who got in earlier. Anyways, just have hope! We can never tell what will really happen until it happens.

Not to ruin anyone’s hope anything but if you think about it, current USC students are using the FA page so their Class and Major statuses will be connected to the admission page. I think if we get Unknown, we’re not found in USC’s admitted students’ database so we’re rejected.

^ Bouncer, don’t give up hope yet. The problem with your assumption is that you have assumed that all financial aid packages have been completed. Every year for the past several years financial aid has not been presented until the end of the first week of April at the earliest (with some appearing later in April). Financial aid packaging is an ongoing process at this point.

Financial aid is not yet complete, and having “unknown” on your financial aid page may simply mean that a Financial Aid officer has not yet gotten to your file regardless of what admissions has decided in your case.

I predict that, now that it is Monday and financial aid officers are back at work, you will see additional changes (that is until USC Admissions sees this thread and plugs the hole…) through the work week. For those of you feeling stressed, it might be best to resolve not to look at ANY statuses - official decisions will be out very soon.

Best of luck to all!

Maybe people applied before 12/1 got into the FA system earlier. Anyone applied before 12/1 gets unknown status?

@AZParent That is a good point. Perhaps there is some correlation between this and those who applied before/after the 12/1 merit deadline? I have my first choice major listed, and applied right on 12/1, so…

I didnt turn anything at all in for FAFSA or Financial Aid and I have Unknown, Unknown. Since I didnt turn anything in is this normal or could i still see a major listed? @alamemom

:) This is an all-new quirk so there is not yet a “normal.”

On page 3 of this thread, AZparent reports the major appearing and that they did not apply for aid. That is all I know.

Best of luck.

As the financial aid office continues to work in the next few days before decisions come out, people with unknowns keep an eye on your status and post if there’s any changes.

I applied prior to 12/1 and I am shown unknown, unknown

Does anyone else have something besides unknown that didnt apply for Financial Aid?

I have an unknown, unknown. I applied for Interactive Media SCA. Hopefully this is not bad news

Did not apply for financial aid and unknown unknown … and applied prior to 12/1 …

@alamemon While I agree that we may see some changes but I don’t think this is related to the completion of financial aid packages. At least for me on the financial aid status bar for everyone it still says “application in review.” and next to that there is a symbol and in the key it says the symbol means “Pending, no further action required.”

This “update” or whatever it is is simply a header with my name usc id number then underneath that it has the class and the major. I wish you could post pictures on CC so this could be clear to all.

@Az6396 On one of the earlier pages someone posted that they did not apply for FA but had their first choice major.

I don’t think when we applied has anything to do with it.

Mine still has my first choice major. Applied before 12/1 and applied for FA.

A transfer student earlier said they had unknown unknown and it is unlikely admissions have looked at their application yet much less made a decision which would suggest that that unknown, unknown is likely not a determinant of a decision.

Yes, that is what I have been repeating - Financial aid is not completed until the end of the first week of April AND financial aid updates have not been done “all at once” in the past, so having “unknown” may simply mean that a financial aid officer has not yet looked at your file.
I agree. Financial aid is done on the same timetable for all applicants. The 12/1 date is only important to admissions and, once again, you are all looking at a financial aid tab.
Exactly.

@yoskis I sent a message to them anyways. I don’t think it means anything though - FA has no bearing over admissions decisions, and the results wont be posted to USConnect until march 29. What it might be is just a designation based upon you application - although this does not explain why some have first or second major, but since those are a relative few I would guess that its just a glitch. “Unknown, Uknown” is also probably a status that means that your FA has not been completed or has not passed a certain step. Decisions have been made but I very much doubt the system will be updated to accommodate those decisions until much later. This discussion just serves to speculate however so I would advise to not read it anymore, we will know soon enough.

Just like to keep the waiting interesting. Here are some facts.

(1) One applicant gets second major listed.
(2) Two scholarship recipients get first major listed.
(3) People didn’t apply FA get first major listed.
(4) People applied before 12/1 get unknowns.

@AZParent I applied before the scholarship deadline and I have my first choice major listed.

@AZParent My S did not apply to Fin Aid and both say - unknown. But someone posted that they have major showing even they did not apply to Fin Aid. It does not matter for us, but for others who has major showing - could be a good sign!

S14 took a summer class at USC (SCA) and his says Undergraduate Visitor and Unclassifiable. Seems like there is still some updating going on in the FA office.
