USConnect question/speculation?

As I mentioned previously, my sons says Undergrad and Undecided for a major. He applied to SCA (first) and Viterbi (second). He applied by Dec 1st and all FA docs (they requested additionally info) were submitted about two weeks ago. FAFSA and CSS were initially submitted on Jan 2.

My hypothesis is there is a central database for admissions decisions and that is where those fields are being filled.

My daughter has undergraduate and her first choice major. We applied before December 1st and did not apply for financial aid.

Applied before Dec 1st deadline and for financial aid. Used to have Unknown for both…now it is gone…

^ Someone posted that they emailed financial aid to ask about the financial aid notation. My theory is that, having been alerted to the glitch, USC now has closed the little hint.

@CALIBRO Mine has also disappeared entirely! Looks like they may have discovered and corrected the loophole in the last hour. Perhaps this means it did indeed mean something…?

They removed the glitch. It must mean something…

Again, even if it meant something, this was on the financial aid page and financial aid continues to be updated. Those who had “unknown” should not assume the worst.

yeah Unknown for both means rejection. darn. guess ill be going to UCLA!!!

Congratulations on your decision to attend UCLA. It is a fine school. Your assumption above, however, may be premature.

So since it’s gone all of us that had unknown are probably not gonna be so happy on Saturday. And @AZparent some sensitivity for those of us who don’t have the same as you would be appreciated

Also, it could just indicate if you were receiving Financial Aid or not

@Az but what about the people who didn’t apply for fa that still had their class and major listed

Merit scholarships that you’re automatically considered for if you apply by 12/1. Im obviously not positive on this, just trying to mute the breakdown that im having right now

Does anyone know if the following is good or bad news?

I just checked the FA status and it has changed.
I applied before 12/1 and FA was status Unknown, Unknown. I just checked again it is does not reference class or major. It is totally blank under my name

@Gr8TrnRob1903 Honestly, theres no real way to know at this point. I’m in the same boat and it could mean not so good news but at the same time it could just as easily mean something completely irrelevant to your admission. I’m gonna be a huge hypocrite right now cause I’m freaking out a little but theres really no way to know until you see something definitive so its not worth speculating.

It could be that it means something if there are things listed however an unknown unknown means nothing

“Merit scholarships that you’re automatically considered for if you apply by 12/1. Im obviously not positive on this, just trying to mute the breakdown that im having right now”

This could be. Four years ago, we did not apply for FA. But my son received a music scholarship just after his acceptance, and this is/was ultimately listed under his FA tab - not now but much later than this. Which indicates that FA is its own system that takes its own sweet time (so unknown/unknown is probably just “we haven’t gotten to you yet.” And it’s true that many FA packages are not complete or visible until well after acceptance. However,I honestly don’t think this means/meant anything, guys. And honestly, if it did, it seems to me it would be hinting at too many acceptances AND first choices.

Could it be that they took it down because it was a glitch and meaningless? Trying to pacify myself as usc would give me more money that ucla just gave…

All we can do is remain hopeful. I was accepted to McComb Business School at University of Texas which is ranked 7th in the country and Marshall is 31st so im hoping optimistically that that’s a good sign but who knows.

yeah so im the one who sent the email and I specifically worded it to infer that nobody thought that the update meant anything, but regardless there was a lot of speculation and worry. I didn’t ask them to take it down I just notified them. them taking it down could mean that it was right but i highly doubt it, rather I think they realized it was leading to mass speculation and there was no explanation for why it was there. they might have then taken it down as a courtesy and to stop the ensesent phone calls that would ensue if the update was inaccurate. hopefully thats the reason.
