USD Fall 2013 Applicants!

@jmcaine…
I noticed that my d merit award was way smaller from Usd than from many out of state schools that were even higher ranked… I think it has something to do with being from SoCal…they need not too many from SoCal…they need to build their class and need regional diversity…this is my only explanation why other merit aid was higher at other schools…they want her at their schools, but here in SoCal they don’t need another blonde . Li hope you Also applied to out of state schools.
I wish everybody else luck…it’s a real pretty school and gorgeous location.

I’m in Houston and still haven’t heard.

@Calmomofthree - we are in Cal, and my child’s merit award from USD was the highest so far by a large margin.

I just called USD and spoke to the admissions office and they said that if there wasn’t any mention of a merit scholarship in the packet then you didn’t get one. They said it was very competitive this year. My D has been accepted to 9 schools and has been offered a merit scholarship at every one of them. She got accepted into Chapman which is harder than USD and they gave her a merit scholarship. Im surprised by USD. You would think they would offer something.

Thanks for the info, Woody93. Santa Clara U has also been generous with a merit scholarship, but given that the Alcala scholarship will be renewable for 4 years, USD is even more so. My friend’s D was offered a $25K/yr merit award at Chapman recently. I am pleasantly surprised by the size of these awards.

still haven’t heard anything… is this a bad thing? My stats are a 1950 sat with a 3.1 gap with 1 ap and a few honors. my portal still says committee review and i don’t see the third tab yet

What is the difference between ready for review and committee review?

Accepted with a scholarship!!! My portal was updated today but I’ll have to wait for snail mail to find out how much. So happy!

@trojan13 where are you from??

Trojan13- Congrats! Know you were anxious…also good to know that they’re still rolling out acceptance. Fingers crossed for mine!

Also- does USD send out an email when the decision is ready or should I just be checking my portal religiously?

I am from Massachusetts! And thank you! I had to check my portal (I did like 20 times a day) and did not recieve an email. Best of luck to you all!

Congrats! I was just accepted today too!
How did you find out that you got a scholarship? Was it on the portal?

I applied Dec. 10, most of my friends who we accepted last week applied a month earlier, so maybe the acceptances are rolling by date.

It had a tab and in the congrats paragraph mentioned my financial aid award. I’m assuming that’s a scholarship because I didn’t apply for aid. I could be wrong though!

@trojan13 -congrats. Keep checking the portal if you don’t receive snail mail. My child has never received snail mail only email and checking the portal confirmed admission and invitation to apply for honors. After about a week or so, we checked the portal and information about merit aid scholarship was available including amount. Still no snail mail.

My D accepted today in NY. Showed up on portal. No financial aid listed. Congrats all!

Accepted today from Chicago. So happy

I just looked online and I got in! No email to tell my decision was ready. I’m in Houston. GPA 3.77 uw. 2020 SAT. No merit aid that I can tell. Haven’t gotten packet it mail as far as I’m aware.

@Eschloss - the portal communicated the same info to my child and was ambiguous about financial/merit aid which came later. So, keep checking the portal periodically - it was about 2 weeks before the portal reflected the merit aid awarded my child. We still have not received any thing in the mail yet. Congrats, USD is a good school and has a very beautiful campus. Good luck if you choose to go there.

@Woody93 thank you! I will continue to check the portal about merit aid. Thanks for the info

Has anyone gotten accepted without “committee review” on the portal, but instead just “ready for review?”
