So i was accepted into both chapman and USD, I applied for business admin at chapman and USD (but at usd you dont declare until sophmore year). After touring them i preferred U of San diego but that could be because i saw it during the semester whereas i saw chapman over the summer. If anyone on here goes to one of the schools, i would love to hear what you think, or if your an applicant who has toured the schools your thoughts would help. My concern with USD is that everyone there is white, wealthy, and somewhat jocky. My concern with chapman is that the social scene wont compare with USD because its in orange which is no san diego. Also how do the business schools compare? Let me know!

White, wealthy, and jocky … joke?

USD has a higher ranked business program and is better known nationally. However, the rankings of the two schools are close enough that it really shouldn’t be your determining factor. Both Chapman and USD are similar in size, admission selectivity, and location (southern california). I think it comes down more to personal preference. Both schools are known for being white and wealthy as lizardrock stated, I think if you liked USD more on your tour then you should go. Its undergraduate business program is ranked number 3 on the west coast by Businessweek, behind only Berkeley and USC. USD also is definitely not a jock school. I know somebody that goes there that’s disappointed in the lack of school spirit. Although, compared to Chapman, its division 1 sports are probably a bigger deal than Chapman’s D3.

I got into both schools as well and I can’t decide! I’m going to visit in march…
@wordapp… I thought USD had a lot of school spirit! That makes me discouraged

I have the same problem! But I plan on going into Political science, any suggestions?

I’m going for pre-med and was already admitted to USD (still waiting on Chapman) but would probably choose USD over Chapman for several reasons…

I’ve heard the sciences are much stronger over at USD.
USD’s campus is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen.
I prefer San Diego over Orange.

The only thing I didn’t love about USD was that it seemed a little more religious than Chapman.

In California, which school is seen as a better school overall?

I think that they’re really close, but USD would probably be better if I had to choose.

USD is hands down the better school, both academically and prestigious in name notoriety both in California and the U.S. It’s rankings and notoriety are sky-rocketing compared to other schools, in the past few years, and will only get higher. As a former student, while school spirit isn’t like a huge D1 type school, school spirit does exist, and other positives outweigh this slight weakness by far.

They aren’t close at all. In BusinessWeek’s rankings of the best undergraduate business programs, USD is ranked 28. Chapman isn’t ranked at all.

Yeah I saw that after research hahaha. Now I’m stuck choosing between NYU and usd haha. I got offered a place in liberal studies at NYU. hopefully USC pulls through so I don’t have to make a decision like this.
