USF Class of 2023

Does anyone know the quality of engineering @USF that can provide a first hand experience? I am from the Midwest and am considering applying, but I don’t know much about their engineering program.

Also, is the campus a commuter campus? I’ve heard a lot of Florida Universities are like that. I feel like that would be a thing for me to consider, since I want to have a pretty active campus life.

@equationlover: what metric would you use to gauge a program’s quality (e.g., patents, Honor Society, jobs, etc.?) I want to be fair to you, while sharing about our CoEng. Also, while we are a metropolitan campus (i.e., surrounded by a city and beaches… did I mention beaches?), we have not been considered a “commuter school” for some time now. We would not have received a Phi Beta Kappa (the one founded in 1776) chapter if that were true.

@mattccc: hang in there…

@RealAcadAdvisor Thanks for the info!!! Patents, job placement, opportunities for research, real world experience/projects, ECT.

Thank you.

@equationlover: USF Tampa reached $568 Million in total research expenditures in the fiscal year 2016-2017 according to the National Science Foundation HERD Survey (Note: Engineering is a good chunk of that amount). USF ranks 1st in Florida, 5th in the nation among public universities and 12th world-wide for granted U.S. patents among all universities according to the Intellectual Property Owners Association/NAI (2017). USF has ranked in the top 10 among public universities for U.S. patents granted for the past eight years (2010-2017). USF ranks 29th in the nation among public universities for total research expenditures by the National Science Foundation (2017). USF Tampa was ranked #19 among the “Best Universities for Technology Transfer, 2017” by the prestigious Milken Institute. USF Tampa is ranked among the best in 2018 U.S. News and World Report (USNWR) Online Education Program rankings. USF graduate programs ranked in the top 50 include: Information Technology (#23) and Engineering (#21). Since 1974, the Florida Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi has existed at USF: https://www.tbp.org/off/DisplayChapterInfo.cfm?ID=43 Of course, our degrees are ABET accredited–which you should expect from any CoEng you are considering.

@RealAcadAdvisor Wouldn’t medicine also be a big part of the total research funding?

@PhilM1: Yes; and the reason for my parenthetical note. While much of the TRE is health-related, the interdisciplinary research conducted at USF makes it difficult to separate some of that amount.

My Daughter from Pennsylvania was accepted today! I checked the portal, no email notice or mail.

Hi everyone,
I applied to USF on Oct. 30 and still haven’r heard anything from them - I sent all the required documents and imagine I probably would’ve been contacted by the admissions office if any other paperwork was needed. It’s been about 8 weeks and so I’m curious what the possible holdup could be. Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

My daughter applied in September, had everything completed and was wondering why the delay. Then she called and found they didn’t match her transcript with her application, so it had to be resent.

nbs1230

I plan on calling and asking when they reopen! @Gramm4 it says on OASIS they received my transcript though?

@nbs1230 Double check your Oasis to see if it shows they received all required documents (including test scores). There maybe a conflict somewhere but I doubt if they will contact you if there is an issue.

@HHMA2019 I’ve checked! The only thing missing is ‘college transcript’ because I did dual enrollment classes, but all my classes are listed on my high school transcript as well so I didn’t send one from the college. Despite that I think USF might need a transcript from the college as well, which is what I’m going to ask about hopefully :slight_smile: If anyone knows if they need one or not please let me know!
