Questions re: University of South Florida- Tampa-

Is it possible to arrange overnight stay for our son, a senior in highschool, who is interested in seeing what it is like there? We want to do this soon, so this question is pressing...looking at possibly Jan 13,14 if at all possible...

Any feedback about the Engineering Living Learning Community- a dorm for Engineering majors?
Any feedback about meal plans?
Any feedback about the social life at the school? Does the campus have fun things to do for Freshman?
Is it wise to have a car there?

Thanks very much , in advance, for any input you might have. We would be grategul for your help.

If doing engineering, the LLC is great. Phone housing office at USF for tour of dorms. Meal plans are required for freshmen on campus–I liked the meal plan. I stay busy at USF with studies, sports, clubs, part-time on campus job and other activities; I have fun and have made many friends at USF. I haven’t had a car my 4 years at USF; lived on campus 2 yrs and across street in apt. 2 yrs. Some people might go nuts without car, but a car isn’t necessary. USF men’s basketball is playing Seton Hall downtown Tampa Fri night–USF’s Sundome is under renovation until May and home games temporarily are downtown at the Forum–maybe catch the bkb game.

Thanks so much Lizard for the feedback. We have gone on the tour and we have seen the Engineering Dorm. Can you offer more detailed feedback about it? Is it truly a place where people can study? There is a big flat screen TV in the common area. Is it just a place of non stop video gaming? LOL!

My son does not know anyone who attends USF or anyone who will attend USF. If we could arrange a “visitation” overnight, maybe he would not be going into this “blind”. Is there a way to arrange this, maybe with advance notice, not with such short notice as I have mentioned?

We’ve arranged to stay in a motel nearby. Would love to catch the basketball game on Friday but we have a conflict. We are from Eastern Central Florida but only moved to Florida semi-recently. We know next to nothing about Tampa.

We want to get an understanding of the fun factor- whether there is reasonable fun on weekends - and/or whether there is too much fun, so much that it limits any studies.

Thanks to Lizard and to anyone who offers comments here. I appreciate them all!
