Using kindle for AP lit. Good or bad idea?

Hello fellow CC members. I'm kind of in a jam. I'm not sure if I should use a kindle for AP lit or not because being in AP lit we have to take a lot of reading notes in the book. I know the kindles have this feature but I guess I'm kind of paranoid that I'm training my brain to take notes on a digital device and I just want to do the best that i can possibly do on the test.

Don’t you have to take your book to school? I’m sure that a kindle would do fine for note taking but I would be concerned to lug that around school all day, it’s one thing to lose/have stolen a 8$ paperback but completely different to lose/have stolen your 200$ kindle…

Did you take AP Lit because you just absolutely just love to read? if you did then reading a paper book is probably so much more comfortable for you.

If you’re not… and getting through a book every 2-3 weeks seems like hell you might enjoy a kindle more. but cash you’ll have to do without lol (many of the books should be free so it can’t be too bad)

I wouldn’t lose it, I am really good about keeping my stuff. I took AP Lit because I do enjoy reading granting I like the book. But my main purpose for taking the class is to become a better writer and reader.

Also cash is not a problem. Kindles are really cheap right now anyways.

It’s a hassle for me to type in notes instead of just underlining/highlighting/writing in the book… Might be different for you, but I predict not. It would be somewhat cost efficient since many of the classics are available for free on the kindle.

it’s so annoying to take notes and annotate in the kindle. don’t get one just for AP lit because you’ll revert back to paper books.

If you have an iphone, try reading (and annotating) a book or two in the ibooks app first to see how comfortable you are with reading books digitally.

thanks this is some useful advice… but i just thought it might be easier to take notes on the kindle because it takes only a few clicks to find out what and where you highlighted/annotated the stuff.

even using the plastic sticky tabs would be easier than using a kindle…

Why would using sticky tabs be easier? That is a huge process to highlight, write a note then put a sticky tab. But I really like how if you don’t know a word you can instantly look it up on the kindle.

1) Typing on a kindle is neither fast nor easy.
2) You have to scroll down with the arrow keys to the place you want to add your notes, which is more hassle than it sounds like.
3) Accessing your notes will be harder than on a real book.

The dictionary is the only good thing about reading classics on a kindle for schoolwork, but if you read at your computer with dictionary.com loaded it won’t be too hard to look up words.
