Using only one example on SAT essay

true, mifune.

p.s. nice job!

Hmm…I had never considered the idea that the graders might want to see well-roundedness. I thought maybe I should impress them with my flow/organization rather than having a few seemingly-random examples. What do others think?

Thanks for answering. Nope, I haven’t taken the SAT yet although I’ve taken the Bio SAT II twice and the Lit SAT II once so far. Tomorrow is my first try! And I’m planning to retake it in April or sometime soon.

Soo…how was ur SAT last saturday?
i took it too…the essay was crazy…
i didn’t have time to write my second example so i just wrote a really long one…im kinda worried…ugh…let’s see the score after two weeks
p.s. I’m really bad on the passage reading section…any suggestions or tips? :p

Hey everyone! I was just thinking about updating all of you on how it turned out. I got the moderation prompt, and luckily I had the perfect example for that. I did end up using only one example, and it was a personal example at that…I’m not sure how much that will hurt me. But I felt like it had a good development and flow.

I guess we’ll see the real result when I get my scores! :)

i was told by my tutor you should write 2 or 3 examples. She might have just told me that because of my writing style and ability, which is par. But you should be good with one example.

Does anyone even know how they even grade it. Is it just based upon if they like how its formally written? Im kinda nervous because i put some personal creative voice in their. Would it effect my score if they dont like my creative side.

I made up 2/3 examples this time = D. Watch me get a 12 lawl.

@JoeyBay: They grade it “holistically” for about a couple of minutes. I don’t think they mark down for a creative voice, although it should be formal enough to be an essay.

@Olleger: Good job.

Update: 12 essay!

(Not a direct result of using only one example on SAT essay, but it just goes to show that you should do what works for you.)

i only used one example (tho it was really long) and the march sat and still got a 10

*ON, not “and” lol

Dang…i got a 8 and i’m kinda suprised…i thought i might got 6 or something
the topic was so hard.
wow u guys are soooooo smart…wow…can you tutor me on critical reading??
omggggg i did soooooooo bad on it…i’m kinda upset now:(

I’m going to comment on this again as I received the results of my 2nd SAT today. One example can definitely be pulled off.

October SAT: one example, two pages - 12
March SAT: one example, little less than two pages - 11

A 11/12 essay is very do-able with one example. If you’re a strong writer, one example > three examples.

how do you guys write so much for only one example? what do you talk about with your personal examples, could someone describe this a little more for me? I use two examples for my essays that im practicing with (generally one literature, one history), is that enough to get an 11 or 12?

Thanks
