<p>That would guarantee an instant rejection. Think for yourself why.</p>
<p>Admissions Officers get together during the summer months for conferences, and I’m sure everyone at Harvard personally knows the folks at MIT. And I willing to bet that Harvard knows what questions MIT asked this year, as well as those asked by UChicago. What you don’t want is for Harvard (or any other college) to go “Oh, look another kid repurposed his MIT essay!” By doing that, you demonstrate to Harvard that you don’t care about their school. That’s a sure fire way to torpedo your application! As Harvard doesn’t require a supplemental essay (beyond the essay about an EC), you would be better off NOT submitting a supplemental essay than reusing your essay for MIT.</p>

<p>Yes, this is true. I know for a fact that the admins at those (and other) schools not only know each other but are in mutually beneficial communication. They are competing for students but do work with each other.</p>

<p>The only exception would be if you wrote a non-university-specific essay. For example, several years ago, my son decided that he didn’t want to apply to any college that required him to write on a specific topic. So, he crossed off MIT and UChicago from his list (among others). Instead, he wrote 3 essays – the Common App personal statement, a Supplemental Essay, and the essay about your involvement in an EC (which is no longer on the Common App, but is now part of the school-specific supplements, such as Harvard’s). With just those 3 essays, he was able to apply to 11 colleges, including HYP. He was accepted to 10 out of 11 colleges using the same essays. If you do something similar, that’s okay. But, do NOT repurpose a school-specific essay, such as those for MIT, Stanford and UChicago. IMHO, that’s just asking to be rejected!</p>
<p>I think it could work if the essay is generic enough - it may not be obvious that a recycled UChicago essay was written about the “you are you and your” prompt. It could just sound like a personal statement. I agree that reusing an essay for one of the quirkier UChicago prompts would be a bad idea, though.</p>
<p>If the same essay fits into both, why not? Recycling (essays) is eco-friendly and student-friendly
