Any one know anything about the USMA civil prep program? How is this different than USMAPS?

The USMA CivPrep program is a program sponsored by the WP AOG. If a cadet candidate is extremely qualified to enter West Point but is not given an appointment, he/she will automatically be considered for this scholarship. The AOG provide partial tution the one of the three military schools taking part in the CivPrep program. The value of the scholarship does not lie in the monetary value, but in the guarentee of recieving an appointment to West Point. Around 60 of these scholarships are given each year.

I will be attending Marion Military Institute during the 2005-2006 year, taking part in the CivPrep program. I will then go on to West Point in the summer of 2006. If you have any questions about the program feel free to ask!

bpitt.
When did you recive the civprep appointment?

Bpitt--have fun at Marion. Alabama's a nice place, but Marion is not. I'm from Birmingham, and I met a bunch of guys from Marion that are coming to WP this year. It's really small, there are a lot of high-schoolers, and there's not much to do. But you know what? If you really want West Point and are willing to go to a civ prep school, then more power to you, and GOOD LUCK! Hopefully I'll see you when I'm a Yuk in a year. :)

I recieved my CivPrep appointment around the first or second week of May. I was planning on attending Wake Forest next year and then re-applying to West Point. But the CivPrep guarentees me a spot at West Point unless I screw up(which I'm not planning on doing). I chose Marion over NMMI because its closer to home(Georgia), but other than that they are pretty much the same. Also, there is NOTHING in Marion that would distract me from succeeding.

as of mid April 24 out of the 42 Civil prep students received their appointments

becareful of the civil prep program... unlike USMAPS you are not guarenteed a spot, you have to go through the entire applicaiton process again, they do however boast about a 80-90% acceptance rate, students are encouraged to maintain atleast a B average in every class

you are correct that there is not a guarentee of acceptance, but as long as you maintain a B average and do not get into any trouble, then you will be accepted. The CivPrep candidates do not compete in the regular applicant pool. There are slots in the class of 2010 that are set aside for them, and appointments will be offered if the candidates maintain a B average during the year. So as long as you maintain a B average, you will be golden.

But you're right, its not 100% guarenteed. All I know is that I can maintain a B average, and West Point is my dream, so I'll work hard to get it.

good luck to ya bpitt...wish you the best at marion

If it's any consolation, out of those 24 AOGers accepted, 16 of them came from Marion.
