Hi, Im a highschool freshmen and i want to be a greenberet combat diver. First of all please don't tell me i need to focus on grades because trust me im focusing but it is summer and i want to look ahead. First of all, on the usma website they show you that you can do CDQC and SFAS but can you do both? i understand only 10 get to go to SFAS and 15 to CDQC. If you do either do you have to repeat them later on? Also, I thought that combat divers were special ops and if i made it as a combat diver would i have to enter special ops to continue my career as a diver? Finally, I can do 105 pushups, 110 situps, a 5:30mile (9min 1.5 mile), and a 5:10 500yard swim(i dont know meter because im a swimmer and there is no 500meter swim) Please please help.

I have two sons who are WP cadets. One graduated a couple of years past, the other is there now. Both are certified divers and looked into joining the WP SCUBA Club. Combat Diver, aka “Scuba Bubble” is a highly prized tab in the spec ops field. In most cases, you must be a member of the spec ops field to even apply. Members of the WP SCUBA club are able to APPLY to the school as one of their summer classes.

You have chosen very high standards, that is good. My recommendation is to prioritize your goals. Do you want to go to a service academy, or become combat diver, or both. The path of least resistance is to enlist, or OCS if you have a degree, in the Army, qualify for special forces, get your SF tab, then apply for the combat diver school. Going through the nomination and appointment process to get into WP is very challenging. Then there is the way my first son did it. Enlist, show the Army what kind of a soldier you are, apply to WP, get a presidential appointment.

If you enlist, make sure the recruiter does not lead you down the primrose path! They have slots to fill. Know what you want and go after it. Good luck!
