USNA

I was researching the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and was surprised to see the acceptance rate of 9%. However, I was even more surprised when I did some more research on test scores and stats needed to get in. I saw the average act scores were only 27-31 and that GPAs were not typically super high either.

I was wondering why this school seems to be super selective at first glance, but then looking closer at stats it would be really easy for someone with at least decent stats to get into.

Take UMCP for example. They have a 45% acceptance rate yet there average ACTs span from 28-32 or 30-33 depending on which source you use. Either way it’s still higher than the USNA, but a difference of 36% in acceptance rate which is huge.

I was wondering if they use some other major criteria to assess you other than test scores or GPA.

In addition to test scores and GPA, candidates also have to secure a nomination as well as pass a department of defense medical screening. They also have to pass a physical readiness test. Many factors can be considered disqualifying as even the need for corrective glasses would require a waiver. The entire application process is exremely grueling.
