USNCO 2011 Discussion!

lol when will you noobs realize that these high school competitions are useless…I know people who never qualified for the camp but are probably 10x the chemists as people who’ve medaled. Once you leave 12th grade no one gives a **** about your little contest.

^that’s just cold and uncalled for. Perhaps some of us don’t enter the competitions for adcoms, but instead, because we enjoy them. There are lots of things in our lives that no one gives a hoot about, but does that mean we shouldn’t do them?

Very well said, sMITten. Shalashaska64, most of us compete in these competitions not for college admissions for for the enriching experience and because we truly enjoy the subjects. Now, is there anything so wrong with just trying to enjoy chemistry in this way?

yeah there is, because then you people treat it like an end-all be-all, even though no one cares about your success in such a “prestigious competition” past freshman fall, if that. And the people who don’t care about “college admissions” with respect to this test are either 1. lying, 2. in the overwhelming minority, or both.

Shalashaska64, that was probably one of the most ignorant posts i’ve read. Don’t go around feeling high and mighty just because you’re in college. Secondly, if we didn’t appreciate the subjects we are competing for in the first place, we wouldn’t be trying in the first place. It takes more than just college-bound strive to do well on these tests. And there are plenty of other subjects we could be trying at, but we specifically chose chemistry. Hopefully you’re smart enough to realize that that means something…

cool story bro

Don’t get so mad just because you’re still in high school. Tell em why u mad tho.

Is that what you tell yourself at night? lawl

It means nothing really, I know someone who qualified for the usnco camp as a freshman in high school. Now all he does with his life is make dubstep beats and smoke bowls of kush.

Is this supposed to be a bad thing
You learn a lot of drug chemistry studying HL Chem.

But I legitimately like chemistry though, so why not?

damn, i guess you win this argument because you used memes against me…

I just took it last Friday; I didn’t think it was that bad, hopefully a 56. Anyone else take this?

Not yet. What is the last date to take it? The 25th or the 31st?

Took it last week. The 3 other kids from my school were the only non-dorky looking kids there. No clue why we bothered taking it considering we didn’t prepare and our teacher isn’t very good haha

The last day to take it is April 2nd. I qualified for the national exam so I’ll be taking that on April 16th at our local section. Good luck to you guys.

@ apoc314, first of all, congrats on qualifying! how do you know you already qualified? are you just assuming, or did your local administrator tell you? becuz, I thought they only tell you after April 2 when all local exams are administered- when did you take the test?..i took it today, btw

Our local section coordinator emailed my teacher and she informed me about my qualification for the national exam.

when did u take the test?

I took it on March 5.

apoc you wanna respond to my PM? =P.

How do you know your exact score already? Do they have official answers? Or did you just go by your own judgment

Who grades the test? Local coordinator or they will mail the test to national for grading? I heard people know that by 4/2?

I think the local coordinator grades the tests. csk90, I’ve responded to your PM about USNCO. I’m sorry it took me so long (I kind of forgot about it). I don’t have my actual score, but based on discussion with my classmates I know I missed about 4 questions and my score should have been about 56ish. My local section hasn’t given us our actual scores though, so I don’t know officially.

well…i hope i know early too so I can prepare for the national exam…you’re lucky to know within a week of taking the test!..my coordinator seemed to mention that we would know only after april 2
