Okay so my problem right now is knowing which book to use. I’m in AP Chem right now so I have Zumdahl 8 edition (it also says AP edition, does that matter?). I have heard that Atkins has the calculus in it, and pretty much covers everything. I just don’t want to spend 100 dollars, and then more for the solutions manual. Is Zumdahl sufficient, or should I get Atkins? Or is there something better?
Any other advice for how to study is also welcome. Thanks!
@18college1111
Past exams for studying; any book for refining
Bump?
How’s everyone feeling about the exam next month?
ahhh my local exam is in 2 weeks and I’m pretty nervous because I live in a really competitive region, so just qualifying is like the hardest part
When are locals for you guys?
@ineedmoresleep SoCal region so I feel you locals for me is on March 22!
@PTMtime You’re so lucky because you still have a while to prepare!
Do you know what the cutoff was for your region last year? I’m not part of it but I just want to get a general idea
@ineedmoresleep I emailed the other day and
Pre-2015 (before new test maker) was 54-55/60 while 2015 and 2016 have been 44-45/60
@PTMtime thanks! Do most local coordinators usually tell you the cutoffs if you email them?
@ineedmoresleep I’ve only emailed SoCal and they simply gave me the information, so it shouldn’t be a problem
I emailed my local coordinator like a week ago and he still hasn’t replied…lol
For those of you who have taken the local exam before, how long does it usually take for them to tell you the results?
is anyone here from one of those really competitve chapters? I have completed all the local exams on the ACS website and have started in on the National Exams. If anyone is part of a competitive chapter with their own chapter specific test, could they please share a link to their past papers? thx!!
I took the Local Exam last year and I was notified that day after I took it
@beast2718 That’s pretty quick response for exam score lol
How did you score on 2015 and 2016 exams? I’ve done 2006-2016 and 2015/2016 will definitely reflect 2017 more. Would you say doing 2000-2005 is worth to help practice or should I start national exams?
do all the locals from 2000 onwards
anybody know about chapter specific past exams that I can use for practice. If so post a link, or PM me.
I’m from a fairly competitive chapter. We have 2 parts to our exam. The standard, multiple choice local exam, and a free response section. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to any of the free responses.
Also, anyone know if we’re allowed to talk about scores and stuff right now?
@coolstuffffff nope because testing is still going on everywhere, so anything beyond maybe really vague comments are probably not allowed
xD I haven’t taken the test yet, but I decided I’m going to try and prep within a week. Usually, my teacher (from the past) will give out the test like two to three days before March 31st. I already took AP Chem and maybe some review + studying of some other stuff might do it. I wish I had friends irl to study with for the test, but no one wants to study with me. Haha.
After taking the test, can people post if they thought it was harder, the same, or raiser in terms of difficulty please? I thought it was the same if not slightly more difficult.
@WinnerWannabe do you mean the same as the past 2 years (2015 and 2016) or the years before? Because the locals got significantly more difficult starting in 2015
I also thought it was pretty much the same difficulty as the previous 2 years, but possibly slightly easier.
