USPS lost my refs

I was checking to make sure my refs and stuff got there and I went to track them and they said that they had only been accepted (i.e. not delivered) although I sent them on the 21st of December! What do I do… send my photocopies? or hope that they eventually get there?

My DD had two, count them, two, envelopes with admissions materials that according to the USPS tracking site were accepted by the local post office and never delivered to their final destination. Needless to say, this was very frustrating, and the USPS was absolutely not helpful. I even went to the post office that the envelopes were sent from and the most that they could do was to offer a refund.

In any case, we called one of the colleges, Stanford, to which she had applied to EA, and they suggested that the school fax copies of the references. We did this (asked my DD's school to include a copy of the USPS tracking page and an explanatory letter with the references) and to make a long story short she was admitted.

We learned that the other envelope that was reported as accepted by the post office and not delivered on the USPS web site did make it to the college. Although that college took a long time (last week and she applied in mid December) to update that information on their web site.

In short, I would call Brown to tell them that the USPS web site indicates that the references were not delivered, and ask if you could fax copies to them. Good luck!

One more thing: Were the letters mailed from Canada or from the US?

they were mailed from the US. (I live right like 5 mins the border and I so went to mail them from the states b/c the Canadian postal system is so unreliable - that turned out well. lol)

Thanks MSMDAD

PS: Your D is lucky with only 2, 5, YES 5, are unaccounted for by USPS (all to Brown)

anth_03, FIVE! That is really bad. Were they all sent on the same day?

yah (10char)

I would be sooooo pi$$ed if I were in your shoes.

I am I filled a complaint and I am wating for them to get back to me. But USPS said that they might have been delivered but the delivery guy might not have scanned them... in which case I would have no idea if Brown recieved them or not until Feb. I hate the mailing system in both Canada and the US (last year Canadian mail lost a ref too) !!!

My calculus teacher sent her recc. on Dec. 20th and they did not file it until today. Maybe they just have not gotten to yours yet.

USPS consistently forgets to scan things on delivery. I wouldn't worry too much.

o really? That happens often? So they're prolly there?

I think so. I can't tell you how many things USPS has delivered and the "tracking" has never said delivered. From big packages to tiny things, it's amazing. It's nothing like tracking from regular couriers, like UPS or FedEx, which is generally quite accurate.

mind you USPS costs like 4 bucks for priority mail and UPS or FEDEX like 30 bucks.

K i just got my pin to check the recipt of materials and I logged in and it said they have my refs and school report, however, I sent in an additional reference. How can check if they recieved it since USPS obviously doesnt scan like they are supposed to? Would be alright to call if I explain why or would they just get annoyed?
