Are they??????

I would think so. I think the only thing open are stores.

so i can't postmark my supplementary info.... NOoooooo

i don't see why they would be, jan 2. isn't a nat'l holiday

I am so sorry to tell you this, truly I am: ALL USPS offices are closed January 1, 2008.

But do not fear: send the most important things express (16.50 extra) on the 2nd, and the rest regular speed on the 2nd, and they wouldn't even have finished sorting things out when your application parts have arrived. You are not in bad shape. Perhaps call around and see what's up with a FedEx or UPS, but if things aren't looking up, sleep. It'll be all right.

The only option now is to travel to the college(s) and physically put it in their mailbox(es)! Well what are you waiting for? Go go go!!!

Haha. There should probably be a CollegeAppExpress (tm) that operates around this time.

ZOMGZ ENTREPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITY

(And perhaps charges outrageous fees, to exploit the rich kids, but would accept waivers and things like that...)

my life is over

wait so... do you think it would be ok if i send supplementary material to harvard on the 2nd... I didn't see a specific deadline for the supplementary material (although I had assumed it would be the same as the supplement).

Google is your friend.

UPS: Days of Operation

You might want to start looking for a local branch, now.

omg galo.... you saved my life and i'm not even joking.

Honestly I think most colleges would accept a Jan 2 postmark for mailed applications. Most are applying online, so the Jan 1 deadline is fine, which was probably determined with that in mind. Some colleges (eg Columbia with a Jan 2 deadline) had the foresight to keep in mind the closed POs.

Maybe Kinkos is open New Years Day? If I'm right I think they are always open other than Xmas. If so, maybe leave the package there at the Fedex counter, get a receipt you left it there even if it gets shipped the following day. At least you'll have something on paper to fax the schools if necessary.

Ok, I'm sorry I have another question to ask... My father thinks it's ok to send in a 25 page research paper. I told him that it's ridiculous and the admissions committee will not even consider looking through it if it's that thick. He won't believe me and he told me to show him where it says that I can't send in something that big.

Can anyone provide me with a link that states something to that effect, because I can't find anything on Harvard's website..

My D called Harvard. They don't want the whole paper. My D sent the abstracts and a reduced size poster (folded into 8 1/2 x11) of one of her research projects.

Some schools DO allow it...CalTech and Pomona eg. as they forward the papers to the departments, but Harvard probably wouldn't like it.

Can't help ya bob. And unless you want to shell out hundreds to get your package picked up by the UPS Express Critical folk (click quick quote on the bottom of www.UPSEXPRESSCRITICAL.com), you should drive to the college or hell, just send your things on January 2.

Thank you sequoia, I showed him your post and only then did he believe me...

Just so everyone knows, don't think the UPS service will be cheap. It's same day delivery, which comes at a hefty price(Think 200$+ minimum, probably a lot more). The good news is that they'll come and pick it up from your house, though.

If you can wait until the 2nd and do overnight shipping, that's your best bet, unless you're desperate to get the application out today.

wait... my local ups store says its open tomorrow.... ?

Well, of course it's open on the 2nd! The post office is too!

Oops I meant... technically today, the 1st.

I know. That blew my mind too. Doesn't that suck?
