USPS or UPS...taking bets!

UPS hands down. I haven’t received a package on time from USPS yet this month…to the point where we may have to open Christmas gifts after the 25th for quite a few unless things improve.

Well, the UPS guys and the FedEx guys are delivering vaccines, so if my package gets delayed because of that, I’m OK with it!!

Same here @TiggerDad - my 84 year-old mom sent a package to me here in SoCal from the east coast 10 days ago. Initially, I received a message thru Informed Delivery that the package would be delivered Dec. 12th. Then it changed to “will be delayed”. Now, it says nothing at all. I’m betting on a post Christmas delivery…:woman_shrugging:

When we had curbside mailbox we’d always get a Christmas card from our USPS carrier. Sure seemed like an “ask” to me. I would always leave a check even though I didn’t know the carrier. I live in small town and the carriers drive from mailbox to mailbox. Now, I have a PO Box at the post office and I never get Christmas cards from the staff there.

@1214mom Does the company for your order have a Facebook page? I’ve found that many companies will answer much faster if you post via social media. I typically use the “Private Messaging” method over posting on the public page, and often receive replies to my questions within 24 hours.

A foot of snow and we’re on a street that doesnt get plowed a lot. But we got a mail delivery today. Wasn’t expecting that.

Having heard horror stories about UPS going to Canada, I sent a package USPS Priority on Dec 4. It spent a few days in Brooklyn, then arrived in Montreal and passed through customs on Dec 9. It has been “in transit” ever since.

Now the decision is whether to tell them they need to open gifts each day in order since Hanukkah is over. Silly me, I thought 6 days would be long enough.

Earlier this year I was mailing a lot of masks in a small package (about $4 to mail). I sent out a group to Ct, MA, NYC and to a Denver suburb about 10 miles from the post office and I think it was on a Tuesday, maybe Wed.

The CT package won and was delivered on Sat. I think MA got there on Tues and same with NYC. The Denver to Denver 'burb package went to Iowa, Wisconsin, back to Denver and then finally to the burbs.

I seem to have better luck with things going west than east.

I did send my brother in Maryland a priority (2 day) package. Off it went to Maryland, to annapolis, then to the eastern shore, then back to annapolis and finally to his home outside Annapolis more than a week later. No birthday surprise for him on his birthday.

I guess the package wanted a weekend at the beach.

@twoinanddone There must be a new processing facility on the Eastern Shore (did it go to Easton?). The package I sent my daughter went thru Baltimore, then came back right past my town over to the Eastern Shore, then no more tracking until it reached California - 10 days for 2-day priority mail. I have sent her many packages and they have never gone to the Eastern Shore/Easton first. Weird.

While back I mailed by USPS media mail 3 boxes (all same day) to D. Two arrived in just 3 days and the third box arrived about a month later.

I ordered two items last Friday, one from LL Bean and the other from Lands End. One was Fed Ex, the other UPS. One came Tuesday, the other Wednesday. Frankly I’m still in shock that it was that quick.

I ordered something from Sephora on 12/4. It shipped 3 day priority on 12/7 (scanned into the postal system that day). I received it today 12/18

I am nervous that the items I sent this week are not going to get there by Christmas. Sent priority, have been sitting in a regional counter in my state for 3 days now.

I bought four items from Kohl’s on the same order on December 10 for our son in Seattle. One item was sent via USPS from Seattle and was delivered on the 13th. One item was sent via USPS from Texas and delivered on the 16th. One item is being sent via Fed Ex from Ohio and has been to Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, and North Dakota - keep on truckin’! The last item waited a week to be picked up by UPS in San Jose and is in transit. At least two arrived in time for Chanukah, and the others should make it for his birthday later this month.

This morning, I finally got a new status in the USPS tracking! The package I had ordered two weeks ago finally moved! According to the tracking history, the shipping label was created in Orland Park, IL on December 4, and the package has finally moved and has now reached the current location in Elk Grove Village Distribution Center, IL, on December 18, yesterday. Hooray!

But, uh… isn’t Elk Grove Village just a few miles up north from Orland? About 33 miles? But hey, I’m not complaining! First, the package isn’t lost; second, it’s at least moving!

Okay I’ve officially seen something I’ve never seen before.

On Wednesday, the day before the snowstorm, I dropped of a small-ish package at the local ups store here in CT for delivery to S in Portland ME. UPS ground. I’ve been casually tracking it, and this morning it shows as “Return to Sender”? I can’t for the life of me figure out what the issue would be. Guess it won’t get there be Christmas anymore…rats.

I’ve never seen such a thing.

That’s really weird!!

I ordered something to be made and sent to CA. I ordered it Nov 21. It was shipped (first class) (which makes me think no tracking # since I have asked for it and they haven’t sent it to me) on Dec. 1 . No sign of it. Never made it.

I ordered something from Coach Outlet on 11/27, and something else on 11/30. the 11/30 was shipped and sent by USPS and arrived in a few days. the 11/27 one sat at their warehouse for days, and then they said because of the delay they sent it 2 day priority USPS on Dec. 11. Its still not here. It sat in Jacksonville until Dec. 16 and then apparently made it to Atlanta today. No estimated delivery date offered. So much for 2 day priority.

Update: I called the ups store. For the shipment to ME, I reused a box that a laptop came in. Carefully removed all the labels and colored in the pictures of the batteries with a sharpie. But, evidently I didn’t color it in well enough (or, I should have colored over the red warning border, which I did not), because the package is being returned for having hazardous materials in it. Which it does not.

You’d think they’d have told me that when they took the package in, and asked me what was in it, but…

Shipping question

I purchased an item on Etsy 12/4. At that point, it said that were only 2 items left (it’s a personalized dog ornament) so I didn’t even think about it, thought that they had the material in stock, it would be delivered 12/10-15. On the 12, I was told that she had a shipment lost but that it would be in that day and sent out.

On 12/16 I got notice that it was shipped. There was a label created on 12/16 but when I try and track it, it only says label created. I email her, she claims her post office doesn’t scan in item but once it reaches a regional center, it will be scanned in and will be able to be tracked.

Today 12/20, nothing. Just label created. I have great doubts that it is going to be delivered by Thursday the last day the post office.

How much longer do I wait before asking for my money back? This seller had very stellar reviews. Right now there is no time for another gift to be sent.

My daughters presents that I sent Tuesday seem to be still sitting in a regional center in Grand Rapids Michigan. She lives in eastern PA. I sent another gift from amazon so maybe she will have something from us.

Just this morning our mailman made two separate trips to drop off small packages (envelopes, not boxes) at our house. The second time around, he also dropped something off at a neighbor’s house.

He must be frazzled.
