UT and premed

<p>Currently, im deciding between Rice and UT, and along wiht some other schools liek Dartmouth. i want to eventually go into medical school and become a doctor. However, i understand that in order to do that, i'll need a very high GPA. So, i was wondering how does the UT grading system compare with that of Rice's. Is it easier to get A's in biology, chem, orgo, and physics at UT than at Rice?</p>

<p>and, just out of curiosity, if it is indeed easier to get A's and a higher GPA at UT than at Rice, then would any of you guys choose UT over Rice, assuming that you get into both.</p>

<p>Besides concerns for GPA (btw, I think A's would be easier at UT), do you have other factors for deciding which college you would to attend?</p>

<p>Is money an issue for your family? Do you like a large school with countless things to do? Would you rather have the other with the smaller classes and close relationships with professors? Do you prefer a certain type of social atmosphere?</p>

<p>I would pick the college that better fits me.</p>

<p>actually, ive always asked myself that same question. would i prefer a small college or a large one? after much thinking, i have come to realized that i woudl be happy at both. Both type of school have their own benefits. sooo, it all narrows down to whether if one college will give me more of an edge for medical school acceptance.</p>

<p>You might want to save money for med school and go to UT, because those student loans can really rack up. Both are excellent schools, but given the option I'd much rather go to UT (and probably am) because I don't like Houston and I am completely out of place with the nerdy overachievers at Rice.</p>

<p>you might want to expore the dean scholars program (natural sciences honors program). i know plenty of pre-meds in the program who picked ut over other great school such as mit, rice, upenn, etc (perhaps partly for financial reasons). ds is relatively small thus very close-knit. and although i'm only a freshman, i don't think it'll be too hard to maintain a high gpa here.</p>

<p>The Dean Scholars Program is really hard to get into though. They accept only about 30 some people.</p>

<p>actually..i think they are expanding the program. they accepted 50 last year</p>
