<p>Hello, I'm an OOS student that applied for UT austin.
I was rejected, which really surprised me. I knew my class rank wasn't very high but i thought that they weighed EC's just as high. Any how, I want to appeal their decision but I just don't know what to put in my appeal. They say to put something that wasn't already on my file, but there has been nothing new academically for me or Extra curriculars wise (other than more paid work). I was thinking about talking about how well rounded I am as a student, How I work hard and overcame obstacles (most of this has been shown in my reportcard/essay though) Personally i think I'm very qualified to attend UT austin, but that's not always the case w/ all these 10% laws and other things. I could talk about my personality, How I'm very spirited and I always come up w/ new ideas that could help the school like I started the six man crew at my HS (a group of people that cheers on our HS basketball team, we are outfitted w/ our own uniforms, beaks, capes, and we have our own chants, songs. The crew is so effective that we practically scare every other opposing team out of their game). I could also talk about how UT is a perfect fit for me. Nyhow, i'm just not sure what to talk about. Any input or help in this would be greatly appreciated.
Here are my stats:
3.85 gpa, 2050 SAT, 31 ACT (top 25%)
200 plus hours of Community Service/volunteer work (includes being a flag football coach), 150 hours of paid work, 2 clubs
4 years of football (team captain, All conference, Honorable Mention all state), this was something I really dedicated myself to.</p>
<p>I think you need to put in at least one "new" thing - have you written an interesting paper for one of your classes lately? Maybe you could describe your research for the paper and work in all of the other things you mention. (If the info about the "crew" wasn't in your application you could tell them about that.) If you really haven't done anything new since you applied, maybe you can find an event in the news that has happened since you applied and write about what an impact it had on you (and work in all of the other things you mention).</p>
<p>wow, playm8ker42 i am really surpised u were denied admission to ut...i am also oos and i got in to the ut mccombs business school with a 3.8 gpa and 28 on the act. while i don't know the exact process for appealing the decision, i did appeal my decision to not getting direct admission to indiana u kelley school of business by simply writing a letter explaining how my achievements/accomplishments could apply to their program and providing two letterrs of rec and i was given admission there too aftrer they reviewed the appeals letter...but i think u will definately be given admission to ut, just write a letter saying what you have done and that you;ve been studying hard, state your ec's and how they can be directly applied tyo your field of study etc...</p>
<p>thanks you gave me alot of hope kp964, did u know you applied to all the schools that I applied to? I only applied to 3 schools, Indiana (kelley), Michigan, and UT</p>
<p>I'm almost done w/ my appeal letter to UT, I will be finnished by tommorow night. Can someone please read it over and give inputs/check for errors ? That would be great</p>
<p>PM me, i can read it. however, i am going to tell you this:</p>
<p>i got REJECTED from UT engineering honors (in-state) despite perfect sat iis, good rank, great ecs, etc. i wrote an appeal to them, called them, and asked my counselor to email them. but i just got a reply from them like a month later saying i wasn't qualified. i was like ok...w-t-f.</p>
<p>then i found out that i got into Cornell. again, i was like w-t-f. i now feel like writing to them, "Take that, b-i-o-t-c-h-e-s!!!!"</p>
<p>I believe that UT has a unspoken of cap for the number of OOS students they are willing to admit, especially for McCombs. Although it seems like McCombs caters to a lot of foreigners.</p>
